Port City WBC Weekly News


Another fabulous day to be on the greens. Social Bowls were played, as well as another round of the Club Pairs. Lynne Thompson wof Margaret Doyle, Ann Kirk def Elaine Eames, Rosemary Roach def Beth Hicks, Brenda Burge def Joan Bird, Pat Light def Debbie Amor, Margaret Walsh def Eveline Ramsay, Robyn Biddle wof Beth Schubert.

Lucky Rink Winners – 1st Betty Hall, Rita Koenig, Linda Wright, 2nd – Rosemary Roach, Rhonda Evans, Consolation- Eveline Ramsay, June Edward.
Raffle Winners – 1st Betty Hodgson, 2nd – Beth Hicks.
50’s Club – 1st Brenda Burge, 2nd – Helen Cooper, 3rd Shirley Devine.

Birthdays this week were Maureen Cutting, Muriel Whitbourne and Shirley Chapman.

The Four Day Easter Carnival was held last weekend.
The Easter Ladies’ Pairs was held on Easter Saturday and the following clubs were represented – Panthers, North Haven, Lake Cathie, Westport, Port City, Castle Hill, Tuncurry. Results are as follows.
Overall 1st Place – Carol White and Lynne Thompson, Overall 2nd Place – Faye Schollum and Carol Bowman, Overall Third Place – Joy Allen and Irene Orr (North Haven).
1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Winners all had the same score, 3 wins, 23 ends and a margin of 28. Results were decided on percentages.
AM First Game Winners – Lorraine Smatell and Eula Webster, AM Second Game Winners – Karen McFarlane and Hannah Clohesy, PM Winners – Gail Carmody and Robin Kean.
Easter Basket Winner - Carol Bowman (a worthy winner after all her hard work) and Jan Gauld won first prize in the raffle on Good Friday– she chose a bowls bag.
70’s Club Winners – 1st Kay Stingel (Westport), 2nd Maree Kitchener (Lake Cathie), 3rd – Lyn Zahra (Castle Hill).
Daily Raffle -  1st – Barbara Standen (Lake Cathie), 2nd – Maureen Carkeek (Westport), 3rd Kay Stingel (Westport), 4th Bonnie Weatherley (Port City).

Our next Quarterly Meeting will be held on Tuesday 20th May, after bowls. Ladies, if you are interested in your club, please try to attend.
Club Fours opened on 15th April, will close 6th May and commence 20th May.
Port Panthers Gala Day will be held on Wednesday 21st May
Our Biggest Morning Tea will be held on 27th May.
Versatility Fives Entries are open and will be played on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd June.
 2nd September will be Daffodil Day.
9th September will be the Handicap Triples.
Our 60th Birthday (Diamond) Celebration is on 10th June this year and the sheet is out, so please enter your name early, so we will have some idea of numbers for the catering. The cost for the day is $15. There will be a Spider in aid of the Early Intervention Society.

There are plenty of Carnivals being held in our District, so please keep checking the Carnival Folder.

We are in need of the cardboard rolls (from the centre of Gladwrap, alfoil packets, etc.) Please save any you might have and give to one of our Committee Ladies.

We wish any ladies who are unwell a speedy recovery and a return to bowls very soon.
