Welcome to our

Christmas Party Break Up Day!

A big thank you to all the ladies who made
donations for the hamper and gift baskets.

  Gala Day

Our Gala Day was held on 20th November and President Barbara welcomed District President Maureen Bradford and teams from North Haven, Kew, Comboyne, Wauchope, Lake Cathie, Westport, Port Panthers and of course Port City, a total of 100 bowlers.

The day was a great success, which enabled us to present a cheque for $1,175 to the District President for the Women’s Bowling Association. This money is used to cover the expense of accommodation and petrol for our travelling representatives. Twelve lucky players also received lovely Fruit & Vegetable trays.

EVENTS

Adriana Cutler and Karen McFarlane were chosen to play in the Regional 2 Team in the Playoffs at Coffs Harbour on 21st & 22nd November. Although the winners o the day were Region 1, the girls were pleased to meet many players from different clubs.

Encouragement Day for 2012 was held on Monday 26th November and the Club hosted twenty four teams from Forster/Tuncurry, North Haven, Blackhead, Harrington, Forster, Kempsey Heights, Wingham, Scotts Head, Kempsey RSL, Manning Point, Kew, Westport and, of course, Port City. The weather was very kind and the ladies certainly enjoyed the day.

The overall winners on the day were a composite team from Wingham/Blackhead and Congratulations to Denise Matheson, Claudia O ‘Donnell, Narelle Boyd and Denise Polley.

 Runners-up were a team from North Haven – D Lynch, S Simpson, J O’Neill and W Vanderent.

All our Club Champions for 2012 were presented with their trophies at Presentation day on December 4 and each had their photos taken as a momento of the day.
 Congratulations to all.

 Joke

There once was a Tsar in Russia whose name was Rudolph the Great. He was standing in his house one day with his wife. He looked out the window and saw something happening. He says to his wife, "Look honey. It's raining."
She, being the obstinate type, responded," I don't think so, dear. I think it's snowing."
But Rudolph knew better. So he says to his wife," Let's step outside and we'll find out."
Lo and behold, they step outside and discover it was in fact rain. And Rudolph turns to his wife and replies," I knew it was raining. Rudolph the Red knows rain, dear!"

It’s a Fact

Position on the mat (Law 20)

Before delivery a player should be standing on the mat with one foot fully on the mat.  At the moment they deliver the jack or a bowl, the player should have all or part of one foot on or above the mat.  Any player not meeting the terms of this law is committing a foot-fault, and law 21 will apply. (Covered by 21.1 to 21.4 on pages 47 & 48)

It’s a Fact

After the start of play in any end, the mat should not be moved from its original position EXCEPT in the following circumstances:-

ñ  If the mat is displaced, it should be replaced to its original position.

ñ  If the mat is out of line with the centre line, it should be straightened on that line.

ñ  If the mat is off the centre line, it should be moved to the centre line.

ñ  If a player picks up the mat before the end has been completed, AN OPPOSING PLAYER should replace the mat to its original position.

ñ  If a bowl from a neighbouring rink, moving in its original course and on a bias which will take it back into its own rink, is travelling on a path which will bring it into contact with the mat, ANY PLAYER on the rink on which the mat is being used can lift it so that the bowl can pass and then replace the mat to its original position.

ñ  After the last bowl required to be played in each end has been delivered, a player or the marker should lift the mat and place it completely beyond the face of the rear bank.  Opponents in Singles can, however, agree to carry the mat up the rink so that they can use it at the next end. (My personal thought – carrying the mat does save time & effort).

The above is covered by Law 19.2 i.e. Placing the Mat – During each end.

 A Reminder

Anyone wishing to cancel out or enter their name for Social Days please contact the Club between 7.30 am and 8.00 am on the day. Phone 6583 1153.  This would make the Selector’s job much easier..
