Port City General Meeting

As a result of a petition from members the Board of Port City Bowling Club has given notice of a General Meeting  to be held on Sunday 6th April at 9:00 am at the club.

The business of the meeting, in summary, is to vote on the removal of all directors and, call for nominations for a new board from the floor. The detailed notice, and statements from some of the directors, has been forwarded by post to all members.
This notice has generated widespread interest with members of our Club.

The following is the text of an open letter to all members from Bruce Thompson, former Board Member, to provide additional information on this matter to help you make an informed decision at the meeting.

"You should have received a notice from the Board of Directors following a requisition by 125 full members requesting the board convene an extraordinary general meeting.

Members have shown their concerns for more than ten years over plans for the expansion of the premises out onto no. 1 bowling green. The cost of this development is estimated in excess of six million dollars.

With recent resignations of our Treasurer, for family reasons, and three other Directors over a decision to commence the construction in April, members became very concerned. A start in April would have ruined six major bowls events and made Port City look stupid in the eyes of the bowls community.

Therefore the request for a meeting to change the Board of Directors. To wait until the next Board election in September would have been too late to save the green and would also put the Club into a debt in excess of five million dollars. The members had to act now.

Please take the opportunity of being involved, in what will be your last chance to ensure that our club remains a viable club, by attending this very important meeting at the club on Sunday 6th April for a 9 am start.

Members of the "Save the Green Team" are willing to serve on a new Board of Directors if you choose to support them. It is your choice.

Dependent on how our club constitution is interpreted there may only be seven positions to fill. You can choose who to support.
Our team is: Messrs. Colin Halls, Bruce Thompson, Jeff Pattinson, Bob Counsell, Peter Flanagan and Tom Cornforth.

This team brings experience in boardroom protocol, the Club industry, accounting skills and both corporate and business knowledge.

Our aims are to refurbish our club and create alternative income by utilising the assets the club already owns."

Signed: Bruce Thompson, 31st March, 2014
