Port City Classic Open Singles - Day 1

Rohan Brassey (Cabramatta) 2011 Winner Back Again

The 2012 Port City Classic Open Singles got underway today with some overcast skies and fresh breezes. Yesterday's rain stayed away and the first qualifying round of 48 players completed their 3 games in sectional play.

Rohan Brassey got off to a great start today in his quest to retain the title with an impressive 3 wins +35 in his section. Proprietor of comfitPro Walter Jacobs (Double Bay) showed off his new AERO bowls with a 3 wins +22 victory to progress as well to play on Wednesday.

Three of the local bowlers to progress includes Ken Paulsen (Westport) with 3 wins +35, Bruce Anderson (Westport) with an impressive 3 wins +53 (includes a rare 21 - 0 win in his section), and Alan Wares (Kew) with 3 wins +21.

Full results including scoring for all games is available thanks to Trevor Scholz who is handling the scoring - click here to view. Click on the tabs at the bottom for full day 1 results and the draw for tomorrow.

Sectional winners from today and tomorrow progress to Wednesday's play. 48 new entries take to the greens tomorrow including Jeromy Henry, Geoff McGillvray, Shannon Gittoes, David Holt & Matt Pieterson. Our lone women's entry Anna Davidson takes to the greens tomorrow and as usual will "give it her all" in the 3 games.

Come out to Port City and enjoy some great bowls and the usual hospitality of our Club.

Poor Allan HUBBUCK from Charlestown ... he's HUBBLE in the program and HUBBICK in the results ... oh well guess it doesn't matter now anyway. Maybe next year his name will be spelt right!

Thanks for the comment regarding Allan. I've changed the records on the web site to help convince his friends etc. that he really was here for the tournament!

Cheers,
