The 2012 Port City Classic Open Singles got underway today with some overcast skies and fresh breezes. Yesterday's rain stayed away and the first qualifying round of 48 players completed their 3 games in sectional play.

Rohan Brassey got off to a great start today in his quest to retain the title with an impressive 3 wins +35 in his section. Proprietor of comfitPro Walter Jacobs (Double Bay) showed off his new AERO bowls with a 3 wins +22 victory to progress as well to play on Wednesday.

The weather wasn't the best but the "hardy" bowlers at Port City played in their pennant matches with rain early in the afternoon, then a break followed by more rain and rather cool temps.

It was a perfect autumn day on Tuesday 24th for the playing of the Club Pairs Championship. President Shirley welcomed Mary Norman and Dorothy Hopkins back to bowls.

Smith & Binder Take Out Major Pairs

The Port City Men's Major Pairs final was played yesterday with Ian Binder & Frank Smith taking out the title with a 24 - 14 win over Brian Stokes & Phil Davidson.

Frank now adds another "trophy" to his bowls cabinet after the win in this year's Major Singles.

The skies cleared in Port Macquarie and the greens at Port City were running well considering the constant rain during the week.

Available scores as follows for round 7 matches:

Grade 2: Port City lost to Westport 1 - 5

Grade 4: Port City def. North Haven 5 - 1

Port City Women's BC Weekly News 18th April

Rain was the winner on Tuesday with both District and social games being washed out.

Congratulations to Carol White on winning the Regional Singles at Taree on Monday. We wish her good luck when she goes to Tuncurry in October for the State Singles Play-offs. Well done Carol.

Next Tuesday 24^th April - District Representatives will be at the club to present the pennant flags and badges to team members of grades 1, 2, & 5.

Hopefully the weather will be kinder to us and many of you will be able to attend.

We will celebrate Anzac Day with a short ceremony at the flagpole and afterwards there will be games of Mixed Mens and Ladies bowls - check the list for entries, 1.00pm start.

There will not be any ladies bowls in the week beginning 30^th April as the men are holding the Port City Classic Singles. Come along and watch some of the top bowlers.

Port City's annual major singles tournament the "Port City Classic Singles" will be held from Monday 30 April to Thursday 3 May.

Once again we have a star studded field of 96 bowlers who will play in the qualifying rounds on Monday & Tuesday. Click here for details of entries (updated 19th April). The sectional draw will be posted later when available.

What a wonderful win for our Grade 2 (1) in the pennant this year. Well done girls and good luck and good bowling in the Regional Play-offs at our Club on 15th/16th May.

Port City WBC Weekly News 5th April



President Shirley welcomed the Grade 1 Pennant team from North Haven on Tuesday 3rd April and a special welcome was also given to Val Bott who had been absent for some time. It was a very exciting match to watch and Port City and North Haven played some great bowls. Overall the match went to Port City and in the final games of all pennants the Grade 1 Grade 4 and Grade 5 are all in with a chance of winning a flag.

This is to confirm the rumours going around about my decision not to stand for the position of President of  Mens Bowling Club at the next AGM.  I made the decision, that after 8 wonderful years of leading this great club, I felt it was time to step down and let someone else take the reins. ( I will say more in my report at the A.G.M.)
