Port City WBC Weekly News

Tuesday 29th July was a lovely day for a game of bowls and 22 social ladies enjoyed a game of triples and 1 rink of pairs. We had 2 visitors, Barbara Standen and Pat Corry, we hope your enjoyed your day with us.

Local Senior in State Side

Ken Paulsen, Port City, has been selected to play in the Australian Senior Sides Championship. This championship will be played at one of Australia's top clubs, Tweed Heads Bowls Club, from October 7-10, 2014.

LNC Men's Triples Final

Port City's Geoff Ball (skip), Greg Laird & Paul Sheridan won the LNC District men's triples final this morning at the Kempsey RSL Bowls Club.

Lake Cathie Big Bowl Pairs

Entries are open for the Lake Cathie "The President's Big Bowl Pairs" to be held on Thursday 9th - Friday 10th October, 2014.

With $4,000 in prize money this tournament, sponsored by Aristrocrat, is open to men's, women's and mixed pairs.

Mobile Bowls Bus


AAT Kings is running a promotion with a mobile lawn bowls bus. They will be in Port Macquarie on Monday 11th August in the town green area for only a short period 8:30 - 9:30 am. The following is a release from the tour group. Could be of interest for your "non bowling" friends and neighbors.

Aloha Barefoot Bowls

Bowls NSW is running the Aloha Barefoot Bowls - the unofficial World Championships again this year. I would encourage all clubs in our lower north coast area to consider this program as a great way to promote bowls and in particular barefoot bowls. The following provides additional details from the Association.

Port City Prestige Pairs - Final Day

We knew it was winter today and the bowlers were rugged up in woolen beanies and heavy jackets. After the final game four teams were on a maximum of 10 points with only 1 shot in the margin separating the first 2 sides.

Bruce Anderson & Wayne Buckley (Westport) took out the 1st prize with 10 points and a margin of +61.

Followed closely in 2nd was Greg Brims (Port City) & Kevin Wholohan (Kew) on 10 points and a margin of +60.

Port City Prestige Pairs - Day 2

A perfect winter day in Port Macquarie for day 2 of the Port City Prestige Pairs. Games 3 & 4 were played with the final game 5 to be played Friday morning followed by the presentations at lunch.

With $1,500 to be won by the top team, tomorrow's play will decide the winners.

The Port City Men's Prestige Pairs commenced today with a wet start but blue skies followed later in the morning.

Not the best for photos during the rain but I'll try to improve in the next couple of days.

Despite overnight rain Tuesday 15th July turned out to be a great day for bowls. There was no wind and the greens were not so fast. Social Bowls was played, as well as the second round of the Club Triples.

Congratulations Rowan Brassey from Cabramatta for his win in this year's event with a 21 - 17 win over Matt Miles from Engadine in the final.

Play continued today (Wednesday) in the final qualifying round for the Park Beach Open Singles. Unfortunately non of our local bowlers won their section. Qualifying winners from all rounds will now compete on Thursday with the final to be played on Friday.

The prestigious Park Beach Open singles commenced today with qualifying play in round 1. Unfortunately our local players, Paul Barry & Bruce Anderson did not win in their sectional play.

The LNC District singles continued Sunday with play at Port Panthers, South West Rocks & Kempsey Heights. This competition will see the finals played next Saturday 12th July.

Park Beach Open Singles 2014

Billed as the richest open singles in Australia this Park Beach tournament, with $30,000 in prize money, will be played from Monday 7th - Friday 11th July.

Several local players have entered to compete against a quality field.

On Tuesday 1st July we held our Out of Hat Triples with 18 teams competing, playing two games each of 15 ends. It’s a very levelling game with ladies of all different grades playing together.
