LNC District Championships - State Pairs

The following message has been received from Kevin William, Bowls Coordinator, LNC  District:

"Due to a number of late withdrawals in the State Pairs draw all Round 1 matches will now be played at 9:00am at Hat Head on Sunday  1^st June, 2014."

Port City WBC Weekly News

On Tuesday 27^th May we held our Biggest Morning Tea and we were served with delicious scones, jam and cream before going out onto the greens.We also had a Spider and Robyn Biddle thanked everyone for their generosity in raising $628.45 for the Cancer Council.  Well done everyone.

Kew Men's $5,000 Triples Tournament

Entries are now open for the popular Kew $5,000 Men's Triples to be held on Saturday 1st - Sunday 2nd November, 2014.

Local Legend Selected in State Side

Local "Legend" Peter Stockham, Westport, has been selected to the NSW 2014 Legends to take on the Greenkeepers. The annual series will be held Monday 28 July 2014 at Davistown RSL Bowling Club.

With our Zone 14 Men's Pennant finals now completed several bowlers have asked about the various locations for the State Finals on Saturday 9 - Monday 11 August.

Port City Men's Major Pairs Final

The Port City Men's Major Pairs final was played this morning in a very close match that could have gone either way. Scores were tied at 16 all after 18 ends until Greg and John went on to win 22 - 16.

Zone 14 Men's Pennant Finals

Zone 14 Pennant finals were played in Port Macquarie today under ideal summer weather conditions. With play at Westport and Port City local supporters had a great day of good competitive bowling.

Senior Inter-Zone Rounds 1 & 2

In round 1  Zone 14 def. Zone 11 (Sydney Central) 60 - 40 then they went down to Zone 2 (Newcastle) 57 - 62 in the second round.

The End of an Era

"A Special General Meeting happened at Port Panthers on Friday, 16th May. A unanimous vote, by our fourteen District Clubs, passed the Zone Alone proposal. 

District Fours Round 2 & Qtr. Finals

The District Fours continued on Sunday at Lake Cathie with some close games in round 2 and the quarter finals.

The semi finals, to be played at Lake Cathie on Saturday morning,  31st May will see:

G. Martin (North Haven) vs. S. Franklin (Kempsey Heights)
R. Boulter (South West Rocks) vs. A. Kelly (Port Panthers) 

The semi finals will start at 9:00 am followed by the final at 1:00 pm.

District Fours at Cathie

The LNC District Fours commenced today at Lake Cathie with round 1 this afternoon. Round 2 and the quarter final will be held at Cathie tomorrow, Sunday 18th May. Play starts at 9:00 am with 16 teams in action after several received a bye today.

Seniors On Show Next Week

"The best "senior" bowlers from around NSW will converge on the Shoalhaven when the Senior Inter-Zone Sides Championship is hosted by Milton Ulladulla and Lake Conjola Bowling Clubs from Tuesday 20th to Thursday 22nd May.

The $10,000 Port City Men's Handicap Triples concluded today with several teams grouped closely at the top of  the table.

Well done to the Port City team of Peter Gunn (skip), Mal Pye & Peter Ascot-Evans for the near maximum scoreline of 15 points (7 wins & 1 draw) to take out 1st place.

They were followed closely by the teams skipped by:

Peter Stockham - 14 + 67
Barrie Isaac - 14 + 61

The Port City $10,000 Men's Handicap Triples continued today under ideal conditions and free running greens.

The 3 day Port City $10,000 Men's Handicap Triples tournament commenced today under  fine weather - as we normally expect in Port Macquarie!

It was great to see the action on all greens with a wide range of coloured shirts from many different clubs.

Farewell to a Fellow Bowls Blogger

Unfortunately the Lake Cathie BC blog is closing down after 3 years on the web. Neil Proctor has made this decision, no doubt with some regrets, after spending many hours keeping bowlers updated on the Club's activities.

Bowlers Split over Plan to Lease Green to Childcare Centre

We've heard of motels etc. now here's something new for a bowls club that may have a spare green !

"In a battle between babies and bowlers, a cash-strapped bowling club wants to take advantage of the baby boom in Sydney's inner west by building a childcare centre on one of its greens."

LNC Men's Pennant Update & Zone Finals

The post sectional playoff for grade 6 was completed today with Westport taking out the title defeating South West Rocks 69 - 46.

LNC District winners will now progress to the Zone 14 finals to be held on Saturday 24th May. (date corrected - sorry for the previous error)

By mutual agreement of the two teams and the Match Committee, the deferred Round 5 match between Port City & Wauchope has been declared a tie under COP 4.9

Each team has been awarded three (3) points.

The Play-off between Grade 6 sectional winners Westport (6/1) and South West Rocks (6/2) will be played tomorrow morning at Kempsey RSL. Good bowling to both teams.

Men's Round 10 Pennant Play at Port City

The final sectional round 10 of the LNC District was played today with the following scores from Port City: 

Grade 4: Port City def. Wauchope 6 - 0

Grade 5: Port City def. North Haven 5 - 1

Grade 6/1: Port City lost to Westport 2 - 4

Grade 7: Port City def. Westport 5 - 1

Non of these results influence the sectional winners in their grades.

Port City WBC Weekly News

Tuesday 6^th May was another great day to be on the greens. There were Social Bowls played, as well as the 18^th Round of Grade 4 Pennants. Grade 4(2) def Wauchope.

Grade 4(1) will play their 18^th Round at North Haven against their 4(1’s) on Thursday 8^th May. The Regional Pennant Playoff will be held at South West Rocks on Monday 16^th and Tuesday 17^th June.

LNC Men's Pennant Final Round 9 Results

 

The final results for round 9 on the LNC District Men's Pennant are now available - click here for the details thanks to Kevin Williams, District Bowls Coordinator. 

Missing scoring for Grades 5, 6/1, 6/2 & 7 have now been included.

In Grade 4 the North Haven vs Port City score has been revised to 6 - 0 for North Haven following the disqualification of Port City for a breach of player eligibility.

With this update Port City are now out of the running in Grade 4 and Westport have taken out the District flag for Grade 7.

Pennant play on Saturday 10th May will decide the District winners for Grades 1, 3 & 4 with the Grade 6 playoff on Sunday 11th May.

Round 9 of the LNC Men's Pennant play was completed today under challenging conditions with a chilly wind but clear skies.
