Port City WBC Weekly News


President Barbara welcomed all bowlers on Tuesday 20th August and gave a special welcome to a new member, Jo Jenkins.
The final of the Major Minor Pairs was played today. Congratulations to the Winners – Pat Morrison and Carol Bowman and the Runners-up, Denise Gudgeon and Gail Carmody. It was a very tight game, with only a 2 shots difference overall.

The President also congratulated the Grade1 and Grade 2 Pennant Teams on their stellar performances at the State Pennants Play-off last week.
Grade 1 went down 2 shots overall and Grade 2 went down by 1 shot overall.
The first round of the Minor Pairs was played today – Brenda Burge d Jenelle Francis, Jenny Devitt d Dawn Olsen, Kay Bassett d Margaret Edwards, Barbara Owens d Barbara Griffiths, Beth Hicks d Joy Barry.
The next round will be on Thursday 22nd August.
Lucky Rink Winners – Dorothy Hopkins, Kerry Bolsover, Judy Scholz, 2nd – Margaret Fowler, Kay Bassett, Consolation -  Jan Drewsen, Dawn Olsen.
Raffle Winners – 1st Barbara Owens, 2nd Ingrid Code.
60’s Club Winners– 1st Carol Banks, 2nd Anne Connell, 3rd Eleanore Russell.

Barbara congratulated Carol White on being chosen to play in the Over 60’s State Team.
The sheet is on the board for the Out of Hat Fours to be played on Tuesday 3rd September and Barbara requested that all players arrive at the club no later than 9.00 on the day in order to get the draw for the teams completed early.

There will be two games played and players must provide their own lunch.
Club Mixed Pairs will commence this Sunday and the draw is up on the board.

Our Bowls Coach Shirley Devine advised that there will be no coaching this Friday morning.

There will be no Social Bowls Saturday morning due to the playing of the inaugural State City versus Country Women’s Tournament all day Saturday and Sunday morning. There should be some great bowls to watch and our Club President Barbara Barrett will be competing. We wish them all Good Luck.

Open Mixed Pairs will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1.00 pm.
Robyn Biddle, Anne Connell, Ann Kirk and Joy Barry will be at the front of the National Bank in Horton Street selling items for Daffodil Day this Friday.

Daffodil Day will be held at our club on Tuesday 17th September.

Our best wishes go to all our members who are feeling unwell and pray that they will be able to return to bowls very soon.
Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th the Coca Cola Triples Carnival will be held.
