Port City WBC News 30th August

Tuesday 28^th August was a perfect day for bowls and we held our Daffodil Day which included a delicious morning tea of scones with jam and cream. There was a Trading Table to support cancer research. Proceeds of the day went to the Cancer Council and we were very happy to present a cheque for $1150 to the Cancer Council's representitive Robyn Biddle.

The day was a great success thanks to the many helpers and we were pleased to welcome 8 bowlers from Wauchope Bowling Club and 8 members from Port Panthers.

Unfortunately our President Barbara Barrett was sick and unable to attend, but Vice-President Carol Bowman did a great job.

Dot Gibbs, Mary Goodall and Barbara Riordan were welcomed back to bowls and Wendy Elliott joined us for her first game of social bowls.

Congratulations to Debbie Amor and Mary Bennett for winning the finals of the Major/Minor Pairs Championship and to Gail Carmody and Denise Gudgeon who were Runners-Up. It was a great game.

The Minor Pairs opened Tuesday 28^th August and the winners were B Griffiths, B Owens, D Olsen, J Drewsen and A Kirk, the second round to be played on Thursday 30^th August.

 The Minor Singles opened on Tuesday 28^th August and will close on 18^th September. Play will commence on Tuesday 2^nd October.

Lucky rink winners – 1^{st -_} Adele Pobje, Janice Bynon, Carmel Daniels – 2^nd Ann Kirk, Brenda Burge – 3^rd Yvonne Breakwell, Rose Edwards, Jenelle Francis – Consolation Denise Franklin, Sue Smith.

As we were unable to hold our Quarterly Meeting on 28^th August, it will now be held on Tuesday, 11^th September.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to Phil and family following the death of Mavis Travers. She will be sadly missed by our members.

Don’t forget ladies that the “Out of Hat Fours” will be played on Tuesday 4^th September and we need the names in by Saturday 1^st September, no later than 1.00 p.m.
