Zone 14 Playoffs this Week End

Last week end Ian Binder and Frank Smith (Port City) took out the LNC District Champion of Club Champions Pairs title with a 20 - 16 win over Col Baldwin & Peter Stockham (Westport).

Tuesday 28th August was a perfect day for bowls and we held our Daffodil Day which included a delicious morning tea of scones with jam and cream. There was a Trading Table to support cancer research. Proceeds of the day went to the Cancer Council and we were very happy to present a cheque for $1150 to the Cancer Council's representitive Robyn Biddle.

Women's Major Minor Pairs Final

The final of the Port City Women's Bowling Club major minor pairs was played today with Mary Bennett and Debbie Amor taking out the title. Runners Up were Gail Carmody and Denise Gudgeon.

NSW Bowlers Arm Championship

 
Port City's Jim Lamb has won the State Bowlers Arm Pairs Championship. Teamed with Ken Towers from Bulahdelah they took out the NSW State Championship earlier this month at Beresfield.

Anderson Selected for NSW State Senior Side

Westport's Bruce Anderson has been selected in the NSW Senior Side to compete in the Australian Side Championship in October.

The LNC District Rookie Pairs were played today at Westport with 3 rounds of sectional play followed by the sectional winners playing for the title.

The NSW State under 18 junior side has been selected for the annual Combined High School Series. This competitive and exciting series will be held at the Port City BC from Tuesday 11th Sept - Thursday 13th September.

How very proud we are of our Grade 1 and 2 Pennant teams who vied last week for the State Pennant Flags at Tuncurry with brilliant conditions. Well done to all the players and better luck next year. Thank you also to all the supporters and barrackers who travelled to cheer the girls on, you were certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Everson Wins LNC District Rookie Singles

The LNC District Rookie Singles semi finals and the final were played at Westport this morning. To qualify as a "rookie" the bowlers must have less than 30 months experience.

In the semi finals:

Ben Everson (Hat Head) defeated Garry Keft 17 - 0
Bruce Johnson (Westport) def. Jim Gaskill (Westport) 17 - 6

In the final Ben Everson took out the District title defeating Bruce Johnson 17 - 8

The rookie pairs will be played next weekend on Saturday 25th August.

LNC District Rookies Competition

Sectional play in the LNC District Men's singles competition commenced today at Westport with the following as sectional winners.

G. Keft (Port City), B. Everson (Hat Head), B. Johnson (Westport) & J. Gaskill (Westport).

These players now progress to the semi finals tomorrow morning followed by the final.

Women's Pennant at Forster - Tuncurry


Port City played Kingscliff Beach in the final round of Grade 1 Pennant today and took out one rink win to prevent Kingscliff Beach from winning the section. Click here for full details of all grades.

Wednesday's Play in Women's Pennant Finals

Games were completed in the NSW Women's State Pennant finals today at Forster / Tuncurry.

In grade 1 our Port City team managed to pick up 1 point only and are no longer in contention for the sectional win. It appears to be between Castle Hill and Kingcliff Beach for this section. Port City plays Kingscliff Beach tomorrow and could prove to be the spoilers for the section title.

Grade 2 sectional winner has gone to Trangie with a 39 - 31 win over Glenbrook Panthers.

Play in the Women's State Pennant finals continued on Tuesday in Forster / Tuncurry with some continuing fine weather and mixed results for the Port City sides.

Good News - the Port City 1's had a draw with Dubbo this morning and a win against Neutral Bay this afternoon.

Zone 14 Declared Winner of Junior Competition

Day 2 of the 2012 Junior Inter-Zone 7-A-Side was abandoned after Port Macquarie received a bucketing of rain. With no further play possible, the event result was declared based on day 1 results with our local Zone 14 taking out the gold.

Women's State Pennant Finals Next Week

The women's state pennant finals will be held in the Forster Tuncurry area next week with play commencing on Monday 13th August.

Port City WBC Weekly News 9th August


Ideal conditions prevailed for the Finals of the Major Club Triples Championship on Tuesday when Denise Gudgeon, Lois Bishell, Beth Schubert vied for the Trophy against Dulcie Holihan, Faye Schollum and Lyn Thompson. It was a great game and for 2012, the winners were Beth's team. Congratulations to both teams on superb bowling through the tournament. Also played on Tuesday was a Major/Minor Pairs match between June Edward, Carol White who defeated Jan Drewsen, Karen McFarlane. Further matches will be held on Tuesday 21st August.

Not only have we won Grade 1 and Grade 2 Pennants but our girls have won their way to contest the State Finals of the Singles, Pairs, Triples, Senior Fours and Open Fours. WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT. The Exciting Juniors are Coming

 
Port City will play host to the cream of the State’s junior bowls talent when it hosts the NSW Junior Inter-Zone 7-A-Side Championship.

The two day event will be held on Saturday 11th & Sunday12th August, with sectional play on Saturday followed by the finals series on Sunday.


Zones are represented by sides of seven players. Each match features three games, one in each of the singles, pairs and fours disciplines.

Warialda Takes Out Grade 7 Pennant at Port City

 
The fine weather continued in Port Macquarie with the final of the Grade 7 Pennant completed this morning. In a competitive and close match Warialda (Zone 3) took out the State Pennant title defeating Kingscliff (Zone 1) 55 to 53.

In Grade 6 our local team from Crescent Head (Zone 14) maintained their unbeaten record for this year with a 63 - 48 win over Gresford (Zone 60) in the final.

NSW Men's Pennant Finals

 
Sectional play and the semi finals of the NSW Men's pennant were completed today. Finals in all grades will be played tomorrow (Monday) in the morning.

Crescent Head, from our Zone 14, has continued on their winning ways with 3 wins in the sectional play and a win in the semi finals. They will contest the final against Gresford (Zone 6). 

Our local team, North Haven, did well in Grade 7 at Port City with 2 wins in the sectional play. They lost to Kingcliff (Zone 1 ) who have won through to the finals tomorrow against Warialda (Zone 3). Well done guys!

Rounds 1 & 2 of the State Grade 7 Pennant finals were completed at Port City today under ideal conditions for winter play. With a bright sun and greens running at 16 - 17 seconds the teams put on a great show of bowls.

Port City Men's Major Minor Pairs

The final of the Port City Men's Major Minor Pairs was played today with Alan White (skip) and Alan Uptin taking out the title 22 - 17 with Frank Smith (skip) and Keith Ashdown the runners up. 

Played on free running greens with a gusty wind both teams did well to make it a close final.
