Port City Consistency Singles Final

State Championships - Singles Update


Singles commenced today in both the men's & women's state championships with results as follows:

Men's Singles: Peter Taylor (Kempsey Heights) won his first round match this morning but went down in the quarter finals 28 - 31 to Ben Twist (St Johns Park) . Click here for details.

The Port City Mixed Pairs final will be played this Saturday morning the19th Oct starting at 9:00am with Elaine Eames & Dean Jenner vs. Lyn & Bryce Stewart.

It should be a very competitive match, come out and cheer them on.

Men's & Women's State Championship Finals


 Some good news and some bad from the State Championship finals today.

First the good news, the boys from Kempsey Heights won both their games today in the state triples and are through to the semi finals tomorrow. Click here for the details.

The not so good news is that the Port City girls, Jennifer Munson & Pat Light won their first game today but lost in the 2nd round of the pairs. Click here for details.

Mixed Fours Final


 Elaine Eames, Jenny Wallis, Martin Wallis and Dean Jennings.

The final of the mixed fours was played on Sunday the 13th Oct at Port City. Dean Jennings and team took out the title with Graeme Light's team runners-up.

Port City Women's Minor Singles Final

The final of the Port City Women's Minor Singles has been decided with Lorraine Cannon the winner and Eleanor Russell runner-up.  It was a close well played game with Lorraine breaking away in the last few ends to win 25 - 18.

Well done to both ladies for reaching the final.

State Championships


The Women's & Men's State Championships commenced today with some initial results as follows:

Organised by Neville Schwartz and ably assisted by Robyn Biddle lawn bowls was promoted at Port Central today. 

I'm told that Bruce heard something was "free" and dropped by to check it out!

Smoke-Free Greens


Many thanks to all bowlers who participated in the poll as shown on the right regarding "smoke-free" greens. Although the sample size was small the vote for smoke-free greens was overwhelming with 80% "for" the motion.

If you have a strong opinion on this matter let your club know - change will only come about if members force the issue.

The NSW Women's Bowling Assoc. State Championships will be held at Tuncurry BC from Saturday 12 - Saturday 19 October.

On Tuesday 8th October there was Social Bowls played, as well as two rounds of the Minor Singles.  Eleanore Russell in defeating  Robin Kean has advanced to the Semi Finals and will play against Barbara Owens on Thursday 10th October. Lorraine Cannon d June Edward to advance to the Finals to be played on Saturday 12th October.

Gold Medal Mixed Pairs Final Results


The Westport Gold Medal Mixed Pairs were completed today with Port City's Jennifer Munson & Geoff Worley taking out the 1st place with 4 wins +56 shots. 

Second place went to Joyce Ebbeck & Kevin Wholohan (Westport) with 4 wins + 49 shots and third to Lorraine & Robert Austin (Taree Leagues) on 4 wins + 38 shots.

Gold Medal Mixed Pairs


Play commenced today in the Gold Medal Mixed Pairs at Westport. In addition to the opposing team the players had to contend with some gusty strong winds.

The Gold Medal Men's Pairs tournament was completed yesterday at Westport. Alex Lee & Matt Sargeant took out the winning trophy with an impressive 5 wins and a margin of 74 shots.

Second place went to Col Baldwin & Alan Wares on 4 wins +49 shots.

Gold Medal Men's Pairs


The Gold Medal Men's Pairs commenced today at Westport under ideal spring weather conditions. Sponsored by Jax Tyres this tournament has $7,500 prize money. With 3 games today (Saturday) and 2 games on Sunday this tournament has proven popular with local and visiting players.

BA Announces New Premier League


"The Australian Premier League competition, which aims to emulate the success of cricket’s T20 Big Bash League by modernising the game to broaden its appeal, is set to be staged from November 19 to 22, under lights at Brisbane’s premier bowls facility, Club Pine Rivers.
In a first for the sport nationally, the competition will also be broadcast live on Fox Sports and SKY NZ from 5pm-9.30pm during the four days of competition, providing unprecedented exposure."
