Australia Day Bowls

 

Bowlers at Port City & Westport celebrated Australia Day with enthusiasm and took the opportunity to dress for the occasion.

Westport Takes Out Distict State & Senior Pairs Titles

The semi finals and finals were completed today in the Greater NSW State Pairs and the Alphapharm State Senior Pairs.

LNC District State Pairs - Finals tomorrow Saturday 25th

Play continues tomorrow, Saturday 25th January, in the LNC District State Championships with the pairs titles to be decided. 

Greater NSW State Pairs: (Port Panthers)- Semi finals, am, P. Taylor (WP) vs. M. Prior (WP)  and M. Kirkman (WP) vs. M. Sargeant (KH). followed by the final. (assume early afternoon).

Alphapharm State Senior Pairs (Westport) - B. Anderson (WP) def. R. Thompson (WP) during the week in one semi final 28 - 10. The other semi final between G. Ball (PC) and M. Langley (WP) is due to be completed Saturday morning. 

I don't have the detail of the status of the delayed game but I would assume the final could start in the morning.

Let's hope the weather is fine for the day and the games can be completed.

Port City WBC Weekly News 24th January

 

 

Margaret Edwards stood in for President Barbara today.

Hastings Haven District Triples were held last week and Port City’s team of Robyn Hehir, Shirley Devine and Margaret Walsh made it through to the finals held at North Haven Bowling Club on Thursday.

Unfortunately they came up against a strong team from Lake Cathie and lost the final.

Although they didn't win the title, we are very proud of our ladies making it so far.

Port City WBC Weekly News 17th January

Tuesday 15th January saw the start of the District Triples and despite early rain all the matches were able to be played.

Good Luck in the next rounds girls.

Unfortunately there was no Social Bowls because of the rain.

Raffle Winners - 1st Margaret Walsh, 2nd Janice Sauter.

State Fours and Senior Fours will be played 22-24 January.

The forms for the Ladies Easter Triples Carnival are out, and will be played 30th March so if you wish to play now is the time to get your teams together and put in an Entry Form.

Forms are also out for the Australia Day Mixed Triples to be played on Saturday 26th January. Dress is casual, preferably with an Australian Theme. Cost is $36 a team and there will be lots of prizes.

Please arrive at 9.00 am for Damper and Billy Tea and play commences at 10.00 am.

Coaching by Shirley and Margaret started again last Friday at 10.00 am and Bryce Stewart is coaching the ladies at 4.00 pm on Thursdays.

Please remember names in or out to the Club on 6583 1153 no later than 8.00 am on Tuesdays.

North Haven Handicap Pairs

Entries are now open for the 2013 Pre-Pennant Handicap Pairs for male & female bowlers. This tournament will be held over 5 weeks from Thursday 31st Jan. to Thursday 28th February. The pairs format will be 2-4-2.

LNC District Triples & Fours

The draw for the LNC District triples and fours in now available on the Zone 14 web site.

Click here for the site then go to "Lower North Coast" heading on the upper right. Then follow the headings to the 2013 LNC District Championships

The District Triples will be played at South West Rocks from Saturday 2nd - Saturday 9th February.

The District Fours will be played at Port City from Saturday 16th - Saturday 23 February.

In spite of dire weather warnings of high temperatures 52 ladies arrived at the Club for a game of bowls on Tuesday 8th January and the weather turned out quite pleasant as there was a lovely breeze.

Our Breakup Party was a great success and a credit to all concerned.

The concert was fabulous – who could forget the synchronized swimming?

The Social Committee, headed by Gail Carmody, produced a magnificent lunch.

 Many thanks to those involved for all their hard work.

 And a special welcome to our non-bowlers having morning tea with us today.

LNC District Senior Singles at Port City

Rounds 1 & 2 of the LNC District State Senior Singles were played at Port City today under warm conditions and a gusty wind. Play will continue tomorrow, Sunday, with rounds 3 & 4 to decide the semi finalists to play next weekend.

The 2013 Bowls Season is Underway

The State Men's Singles at a District level commences tomorrow, Saturday 5th January, with round 1 of the State and Senior Singles. Play will start at Kempsey RSL, Hat Head, Smithtown & Port City in the morning. With 2 games on Saturday & Sunday play in both groups will be down to a final on Saturday 12th Jan.

Come out and support the players to add to the enjoyment of singles play.
