Port City WBC May Newsletter

What an exciting month for our Club with wonderful results from our girls.

CONGRATULATIONS are due to Carol White and Jennifer Munson who contested the Final of the Major Singles Club Championship recently with Carol being the eventual winner. Carol then went on to compete in the Regional Singles Play-off at Taree in extreme weather conditions where she was again the winner and will go to Tuncurry in October to play in the State Singles.

Morgan Solman-Stewart and Janine Stockham are to be congratulated also as winners of the Regional Pairs Play-Off at Westport earlier in the month and will play at Tuncurry in October in the State Pairs Play-off.

What a wealth of talent in this wonderful Club.

President of the Hastings Haven District Bowling Association Maureen along with Secretary Carole and Publicity Officer Margaret came to present the Grades 1, 2 and 5 Pennant flags and badges. All these teams will play in the Pennant Play-offs at our Club on the 15th/16th May.

District Triples will commence on Tuesday 8th May and the non playing member’s morning tea is also on that day. Looking forward to seeing many of you for a chat and a cuppa. There will be some great games to watch.

The club Fours Championship is set down for play on May 22nd which is also the day of our Quarterly Meeting. Please do try and attend as it is most important that we have a Quorum - approx 1.00 pm.

There were quite a few rain delays for the playing the District Fours Open and Seniors Championships recently. Again congratulations are in order for the winners of the Senior Fours - Jennifer Munson (skip) Norma Schwartz Adriana Cutler Rhonda Evans and the winners of the Open Fours - Margaret Walsh (skip) Karen McFarlane Shirley Devine Jenny Wallis.

Nomination forms are out for the Versatility Fives Carnival which will be held on Monday 30th and Tuesday 3lst July - entry fee is $30 per player and the closing date is 20th July. This is a very popular event so be quick with your entries.

We are all excited that this month the State Carnival will be held in this District from Monday 28th May – Friday 1st June. Spectators are more than welcome to witness some outstanding bowls, hoping that Mother Nature will be extremely kind to us.

To each and everyone of you ‘HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY’ - do hope it is a special one and if you are not in the best of health we wish you better days and get well soon.

During the month of May some special ‘O’ birthdays will be celebrated
Rosemary Aylett, Fay Martin, Val Bott, Betty Bryce, Jill Young
Happy Birthday to all of you

 AND JUST FOR A LAUGH

As she watched her mother trying on a new fur coat, the daughter said, 'Mother don't you realize that some poor, dumb beast has suffered sothat you could have that coat?'
And the mother looked at her and said, 'don't you dare talk about your father that way!'

My mate’s wife left him last Thursday, she said she was going for a pint of milk and never coming back. I asked him how he was coping, he said, “not bad, I’ve been using the powdered stuff.”
Thanks to Ann Kirk for this report
