The following is a news release from Bowls Australia regarding the draw & the schedule of play.
"It’s the moment thousands of bowlers around the country and globe have been eagerly anticipating; the release of the Australian Open draws. This release focuses on the sectional listings of the $225,000 prize-money event to provide all entrants with their section details, outlining which day each participant will play on, who they will face in their rubbers, and at which Gold Coast club. In an effort to give players the most opportunity to play on the world-renowned Gold Coast greens, all open-age able-bodied disciplines have been structured to provide three sectional matches, meaning participants who have booked entry in the singles, pairs and fours will compete in nine sectional rounds over three days. Due the enormity of the tournament, some disciplines’ sectional rounds will be staged across multiple days, such as the men’s singles being run over three days, but the scheduling has been constructed to ensure that all section rubbers are played consecutively on the same day and at the same venue, giving participants more chance to explore the Gold Coast region on off-days and without having to shift clubs between matches. Additionally, the post-sectional knockout dates have been confirmed, with qualifiers from the sectional rounds randomly allocated into the knockout field tree once the online competition management system is released later this month. In a first for the Australian Open, which has traditionally been a full-knockout event, in all disciplines that have fewer sections than the number of positions in the knockout draw, the vacant positions in the first elimination round will be filled by the next best-ranked players/teams from all sections within a discipline. 12 clubs have been confirmed as hosts of the 2015 event, including Broadbeach Bowls & Community Club, Benowa Bowls Club, Burleigh Heads Bowls Club, Club Helensvale, Club Robina, Gold Coast Bowls and Community Club, Mermaid Beach Bowls Club, Mudgeeraba Bowls Club, Musgrave Hill Bowls Club, Paradise Point Bowls Club, Southport Bowls Club and Tugun Bowls and Community Club. Further draw details outlining the sequence of when players will encounter their sectional opponents and to which position in the knockout tree they will be assigned if they progress, will be made available when the full draw is made public with the release of the online competition management system on Friday, May 29. The event's schedule of play and conditions of play have now been updated following the confirmation of final participant numbers. | ||
