Port City WBC Weekly News

Tuesday 10th June was Port City Women’s Bowling Club 60th Birthday and it certainly went off with a bang, thanks to all the many helpers who made the day such a success.

Every bowling club in the District was represented and close to 150 people attended our celebration. All the ladies present assembled on No 3 Green and an overhead photo was taken by NashysPix. We especially thank the photographer as half of the money raised from the sale of photos ($200) was donated to our nominated charity The Hastings Early Intervention Program Inc. This amount was added to the proceeds from Green fees, donated by Club Limited and a Spider, making a total of $1094.00.

Judy Brady, secretary, read out many cards of congratulations, including one from a Past President of the club, who is 97 years old.

All the decorations, flowers, hanging decorations and the table decorations were beautifully made by one of our Life Members, Norma Schwartz who must have dedicated many hours creating them. Thanks also to Hazel Durrant who arranged the flowers and to Robyn Biddle for wrapping the gifts and all the kitchen helpers involved in the day. Beth Schubert created the artistically decorated fruit cake. Thanks also to Ocean Breeze Café who prepared our lovely lunch.
Honoured guests on the official table were State President, Robyn Procter, District President Diana Upcroft, Regional Representative Carole Graham, Men’s President Paul Brady, Bowls Organizer Charlie Buchanan, Club Secretary Judy Brady, Vice Presidents Carol Bowman and Margaret Edwards, CEO Russell Stockham, Operations Manager Glen Stewart, Ladies Club President Barbara Barrett and Club Treasurer Anne Connell.

Apologies were received from Past Presidents Joy Davis, Margaret Clay and Mary Norman. Life Members of the Club Robyn Biddle, Shirley Devine, Frances Green and Norma Schwartz were acknowledged, as were Past Presidents Dorothy Hopkins, Robyn Biddle, Phyl Warnes, Shirley Devine and Pamela Ditchfield.

Merit Badges were awarded to Judy Brady, Carol Bowman, Anne Connell, Ann Kirk and Barbara Barrett.

Congratulations to Marilyn Heslehurst from Lake Cathie, who was the winner of the beautiful Diamond Pendant which was raffled.

Thanks to Barbara Owens for this report
