Port City WBC Weekly News

After a showery start on Monday the weather was brilliant for our two- day Versatility Fives Carnival played on 2nd and 3rd June. The 24 teams (120 players) filled every green and the following clubs were represented. Kew, Forster, Wauchope, Tuncurry, Frankston, Forster/Tuncurry Sports, Panthers, Westport, South West Rocks, North Haven, Soldiers Point, Lake Cathie and, of course, Port City.

Results as follows –
Monday AM Winners with 46 points – Carol Bowman, Mary Bennett, Lois Bishell, Maureen Scholz and Wendy Kennedy (Port City)
Monday PM Winners with 41 points – Hazel Durrant, Pat Morrison, Robyn Hehir, Trish Mitchell and Carol Banks (Port City).
Tuesday AM Winners (with 43 points) –Carol Owen, Margaret Coombes, Margaret Evans, Maureen Madeley and Denise Penney (Westport).
Tuesday PM Winners (with 52 points) – Barbara Standen, Marilyn Dewson, Lyn Duncombe, Marie Kitcher and Anne Constantine (Lake Cathie).
Overall Third Place (with 147 points) - Elaine Eames, Rose Edwards, Eleanor Russell, Jenny Wallis and Rhonda Evans (Port City).
Overall Second Place (with 153 points) – Sue Thomas, Di Smith, Narelle Stubberfield, Robyn Flanagan and Eve Saunders (Tuncurry).
Overall First Place (with 165 points) Adele Podje, Karen McFarlane, Janine Stockham, Betty Hodgson and Shirley Devine (Composite).
We congratulate Norma and Neville Schwartz as they celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. As President Barbara put it “these two have worked tirelessly for the club for many years”.
We are sad to announce the passing of Betty Hodgson’s husband last week. Our thoughts and prayers are with Betty and her family and friends. Betty and Raymond had been married for over 51 years and he will be sadly missed.
We look forward to celebrating the 60th birthday next week of our Women’s Bowling Club. It should be a great day and we remind you to please wear club uniform.
There will be a spider and the cost for the day, including lunch, is $15.
$6 (green fees) of this is to be donated by Club Limited to the Hastings Early Intervention Centre. This is our nominated charity for the day.

On Saturday 31st May Pam Ditchfield (Sub Hazel Durrant) def Hannah Clohesy in the quarter final of the Club Fours.
The four teams left in the semi-finals are Pam Ditchfield  versus Lynne Thompson, Robyn Biddle versus Elaine Eames.

Club Triples open 8th June, will close 24th June and play will commence 8th July,
The Regional Fours Play-Off will be held at North Haven on Thursday 12th June. We congratulate our Port City Team consisting of Debbie Amor, Carol Bowman, Barbara Barrett and Judy Brady and wish them all the best. We encourage all ladies to come and cheer on our players.
The Regional Pennant Play-off for Grade 4 will be held at South West Rocks on 16th and 17 June and the club will be providing the small bus to take a cheer squad.

Port Macquarie Mixed Pairs Tournament will be held 27th to 29th June.

The Champion of Club Champion Pairs will be held at Warilla 30th June to 3rd July. We wish Lynne Thompson and Carol White the very best of luck.
