February Newsletter

The District Singles event has recently been completed and Port City girls really came to the fore with Carol White winning the trophy and Margaret Walsh runner up.  Both girls played wonderful bowls and congratulations to both of you from us all.

Port City is certainly featuring in District events as two of our newer members won the District Pairs event. Congratulations to Morgan Solman-Stewart and Janine Stockham who played excellent bowls to win the trophy against very strong opposition in Judy Brady and Barbara Barrett. Well done and congratulations on great games.
Pennant games commence on 6th February and we are all looking forward to hearing some fine results and eventually some new flags hopefully will be added to our collection.  Go get ‘em girls!  Good luck and good bowling to all participants.
The next Quarterly Meeting will be held on Tuesday 28th February at 1.30pm. Your attendance is requested so please make sure that the date is in your diary, as we will need to have a quorum.
The nomination lists for District Triples, Fours and Senior Fours events are on the board and close 6th March.
Our next non player’s morning tea will be held on VALENTINES DAY 14th February at 10.30am so come along and have a chat with the girls. This is also the day that our Phyl Warnes will be leaving us to live in Victoria to be closer to her family.  We will certainly miss her as she has been a wonderful asset to our Club.
Our club will be hosting an Open Day of Bowls – free tuition – jumping castle – Sausage sizzle from 10am until noon Sunday 19th.  Try and encourage some friends to come along and try the game that we all love.
Veterans Day – 2nd April LAKE CATHIE BOWLING CLUB 10am morning tea.
Easter Carnival – 7th April 3 bowl pairs – entries to Carol Bowman.
Handicap Triples – the selectors have been busy doing the numbers and hope you will put your team names in to equal the number 9.  There is no entry fee but please put an envelope into the entry box with your names and handicap numbers and then cross your team’s names off the list on the board.  Date 10th April.
Coaching is still available for pennant players and anyone else who is interested in learning more skills about the game on Friday mornings 10am to noon.  Names on the list please.
As from the 1st February 2012 Woolworths and Mike’s Clarence Street News will NO LONGER BE ACCEPTING THE BOWLS TROPHIES ($5 - $7 - $10 AND $15 VOUCHERS).
ETERNAL TRUTHS
It’s hard to be as fit as a fiddle when you are shaped like a cello.
Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don’t have film.
A balanced diet is a chocolate in each hand.
Middle age is when broadness of the mind and narrowness of the waist change places.
To any of our members or their families who are not feeling well we wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you back at the Club soon.
