Weekly Newsletter - 15th October, 2023

Our Christmas Party and Presentation Night will be held on Saturday 16th December 2023, commencing at 6pm. Put a big note in your diary so you don’t forget. More details will follow closer to the day.

Wednesday Social Bowls saw John Smith, Ian Orr and Barrie Isaac come away with the big cheque. Runners Up were John Hilton, Brett Irwin and Rod Quirk. Voucher winners were Ray Allan, Dave Napper, Dave Wagstaff and Wayne Thrussell.

In the Saturday Cashpot Triples Howard Burrows, Gary Hamilton and Greg Darcy set a high standard to take first prize (W/W). Doreen Barr, Daryle Barr and Bob Kennett took second prize (W/L), while Anne Smith, Karen Rogan and Stewart Rogan claimed third (L/L). Voucher winners were Tony Gors, Peter Laing, Viv Gunter and Peter Mauger.

Club Major Singles continued with Round 2 games being played on Sunday. Round 2 winners were David Jones, Gary Martin, Andrew Richards, Peter Griffith, Barrie Issac, Frank Raczka and Stewart Rogan. In the game between Frank Raczka and Terry Miles a closely fought battle was played. Frank took a good position, leading 24-20, before the unthinkable happened. Frank played a long end, but put his first bowl in the ditch, and Terry did the same. Amazingly, Frank then threw his next 3 bowls into the ditch enabling Terry to claw back 3 shots. The score is now 24-23. Terry claimed 1 shot in the next end, and the game is locked at 24-24. Terry draws a beautiful bowl within inches of the jack to establish shot, and Frank only has 1 bowl left, but he manages to take the jack with his bowl towards one of his back bowls to win the last end by 2 shots and claim a win 26-24. What a fantastic game! Well played Terry, and congratulations Frank in what was a real “nail biter” of a game. In a subsequent Round 3 game played early, Stewart Rogan was able to come from behind to defeat Frank Raczka, who was probably still recovering from the game with Milesy.
