The final of the Hastings Haven District women's pairs was completed during the week. The following is a report with thanks to Ann Butlin, District Publicity,
The Pairs competition began under overcast skies on Tuesday, 3rd February with matches being conducted at both Lake Cathie WBC and Port City WBC. All Tuesday’s matches were completed on schedule, which was a great relief to the District Match Committee after disruptions caused by the weather last week.
Wednesday again was fine, albeit windy. There were some very close matches in both Rounds 3 and 4 at Hibbard Sports Club on very fast greens. Extra ends and dead ends kept everyone on their toes but at the end of play, four different clubs had earned the right to play in the semi finals on Thursday. Those teams were Westport, Port City, Lake Cathie and North Haven.
The semi finals were played on Thursday at the Westport Club, again on very fast greens and with some very tricky weather conditions. The two teams to play in the Final were Betty Oliver and Carole Owen from Westport, and Carol White and Lyn Thompson from Port City. After some very close ends and some outstanding bowling, the champions for 2015 are Lyn Thompson (skip) and Carol White (lead). Congratulations, ladies – it was an outstanding effort by both teams.
Once again, our appreciation to the various officials and host Clubs for their efforts.
