Bad weather caused the cancellation of social bowls on Tuesday, but the Grade 4 Pennant Play went ahead at Raymond Terrace. Our Team made us proud, winning their first 3 games which took them into winning their section. The other section winners are Nyngan, Narrabri and Lithgow Workmens Valley.

Our Port City Grade 4 had one win against Narrabri in the morning 46 - 33 but lost overall in the afternoon game against Nyngan (not sure of the score). The finals will be played to-day and we all wish them good luck in their game against Lithgow. The point Score as of last night - Narrabri 6 - Nyngan 6 - Lithgow 4 - Port City 4.

NSW Pennant Play-Offs


Update on the Grade 4 Pennant Play-offs at Raymond Terrace.
Section 1 was won  by Port Macquarie City
Section 2 was won by Nyngan
Section 3 was won by Lithgow Workmens Valley
Section 4 was won by Narrabri
The four section winners will play a finals Round Robin on Thursday with the Final being played at Soldiers Point on Friday.

Women's State Pennant play-off


The Pennant Play-offs at Port Stephens have had many disruptions due to the heavy rain in the area.
Our Port City ladies Grade 4 were very lucky to be playing at Raymond Terrace which has two greens which are under cover. Results for to-day Port City defeated Dapto in both rinks and in the afternoon game defeated Cooma overall. Tomorrow they play Bateau Bay. More results will be posted as soon as received.

$11,000 Classic Pairs

Entries are open for the $11,000 Classic Pairs at the Forster BC to be held from Monday 20th - Thursday 23rd October. This is the 20th annual event for this popular tournament.

LNC District Champion


Congratulations to Darren White, Lake Cathie, the 2014 Singles Champion of Club Champions for the LNC District. Darren defeated "Tiger" Kelly", Port Panthers, 31 - 26 in the final at Smithtown RSL today.

The NSW Women's Pennant finals will be held in the Port Stephens area from Monday 25th - Friday 29th August. Local teams represented are South West Rocks in grades 2 & 3 and Port City in grade 4.

Bowls Australia has opened a new web site to cover the Australian Open next June at the Gold Coast. You may want to consider entering this event or possibly volunteering as a marker, umpire or scoreboard attendant.

Golden Nugget Finals Today

The finals of the Golden Nugget from Tweed Heads BC will be held today (Thursday). In the men's it will see Casey vs. Bester and the women's features Scott vs. Cottrell.

"Taren Point has become the first club to win successive Grade 1 State Pennants since 1989-90 after claiming the 2014 Grade 1 State Pennant, beating Belrose in a rematch of the 2013 final."

Tuesday 12th August was another cool and windy day which made it a little bit tricky, but nevertheless everyone appeared to be enjoying their games.
 
It was the second semi-final of the Major/Minor Pairs, Shirley Devine and Brenda Burge def Karen McFarlane and Daphne Sumsky.

NSW Men's Pennant Winners Decided

What a great weekend of bowls at Port City with the State Pennant Finals ! Well done to the team at the club for making this major bowls event a success and one to remember for all players and spectators.
 
Cabramatta were too good for Taren Point in the Grade 2 final at Port City.

The local team from Westport went down in the final in Grade 6 - well done in reaching the final!

The NSW Men's Pennant finals will be played tomorrow (Monday) morning with the following teams contesting the State flag: Well done to our local team from Westport for reaching the final in Grade 6 - all the best guys !

NSW Pennant Summary

Sectional play has been completed in the NSW State Pennant Finals. Some great news with one of our Zone 14 teams, Westport, taking out their section with an impressive 6 points +70 in Grade 6. They now progress to the semi finals this afternoon.

Port City Grade 3's Leave on a High Note

Roving reporter Ralph has advised that the Port City Grade 3 team finished on a high note with a 69 - 53 win in game 3 of the sectional play.

State Pennant Finals - Saturday 9th August

Games 1 & 2 of sectional play in the NSW Men's Pennant finals were completed today. Game 3 will be played tomorrow, Sunday morning. Sectional winners will be decided on points (2 for a win & 1 for a draw), if tied then margins will decide the winner.

Port City Grade 3 Pennant at Mt. Lewis

"Happy Snapper" Ralph Eriksson is with the Port City Grade 3 pennant team contesting the State Finals at Mt. Lewis.

The prestigious Golden Nugget Singles will be held next week at the Tweed Heads BC from Monday 11th - Thursday 14th August 2014.

With an entry list that reads like the "who's who of bowls" including Glasson, Kerkow, Wilkie, Henry, Cottrell & Edward to name a few, this top bowling club will showcase bowls at it's best.

Hibbard Sports Club Name to Return

Today's Port Macquarie News features an article on the sale of the Panthers Sports Club. Local members have formed an entity to take over the sports club from the Panthers Group.

I am confident all local bowlers will do all possible to support the new entity, to be named the Hibbard Sports Club, to ensure the Club remains viable and continues to contribute to bowls activities in the Lower North Coast Area.
