Postings and comments regarding the Port City Bowling Club planned extensions and the Four Greens open letter have been deleted from this web blog.

These postings were intended to help inform members and provide a forum for feedback to the Board. I would like to thank all members who have taken the time and trouble to post comments and those who have supported this public forum.

As requested by the Board we have deleted these posts. This action has been taken, with reluctance, in the interest of supporting rational and constructive debate on the issues raised for the benefit of our great club.

The Port City Board of Directors has indicated that should members wish to make comments the club email address is available and these comments will be passed on to the Board.

Port City WBC Weekly News 30th May

The Biggest Morning Tea was held at 9.00 am on Tuesday 28th May. There was a great variety of scones, slices and muffins to choose from and an amount of $360 was raised from the morning tea. Also included in this amount were the proceeds from a raffle of beautiful towels donated by Joy Surrey OAM and a spider on the green for the Cancer Council. Marie Bignell won the towels.

Back to Back Wins for Frank

The final of the Port City Men's Major Singles was played this morning with Frank Smith taking out this trophy event again in 2013 after his win last year.

Frank played like a true champion with a close 31 - 27 win over Geoff Worley. Well done to both players for reaching the final after many rounds in this popular event.

Zone 10 wins Senior Inter-Zone Sides Chamipionship

Senior Inter-Zone Sides Championship - Day 2


Report on day 2 Seniors Inter Zone.

Play was conducted in light drizzle which slowed the greens considerably from day one. Zone fourteen started the day in second place in their section, two points behind zone thirteen and with an eighteen shot deficit.

The final of the plate game and the semi-finals of the pairs were stopped halfway through because of heavy rain, and will continue tomorrow morning. After these games are completed the finals of the pairs and the singles will be played.

The finals of the Port City Women's Club Pairs were played last week and the winners were Margaret Walsh and Shirley Devine.

NSW Senior Inter-Zone Side Championships


The 2013 NSW Senior Inter-Zone Sides Championships are being held this week in Ballina. The Zone 14 side includes local players Col Baldwin, Col Young & Bruce Anderson (Westport), Eric Rowsell, Geoff Worley & Ken Paulsen (Port City) and John O'Neill (Kew)

Port City's David Lomas, Delegate to Zone 14 & Sr. Vice Pres. of the LNCDBA, is in attendance and has forwarded these photos and scoring for the competition.

Game Two Zone 14 lost to Zone 13 54/59. In this game we were in the lead
with one end to go on each rink but dropped lost all three ends by a total
of 11 shots.

LNC Men's Pennant Sectional Playoffs


The LNC Men's pennant sectional playoffs were completed today at North Haven to determine the District winners for Grades 6 & 7 with Kempsey RSL victorious in both grades.

Port City Classic Singles - Finals Day 4

 
In chilly conditions but clear skies the quarter & semi finals and the final are played today. All games are 21 up to see who takes the $4,000 winners prize with the runner-up at $2,000.

Update 2:30 pm: Matt Sargeant (Kempsey Heights) def. Sam Laguzza (Swansea) in the final 21 - 16.

Crescent Head


The Crescent Head Classic Pairs Tournament which was abandoned due to the floods in Feb/March has been rescheduled for the Queens Birthday Long weekend  8 - 10 June.

Bowled Over by Gender Divide


 Kaye Sproule and Neil Clark say a move to non-gender based competitions in lawn bowls is causing some friction in the playing ranks.

THINGS are hotting up on bowling greens around Tasmania.
A row is brewing within the lawn bowls community over a plan to scrap traditional gender divides and allow men and women to compete side by side.

On Tuesday 7th May we played Social Bowls and two more rounds of the Club Pairs. Social Bowls were washed out after about 15 ends and the Club Pairs had to leave the greens for a while, but managed to complete their games. Margaret Walsh def Barbara Barrett, Beth Schubert def Beth Hicks.

Port City WBC Weekly News 2nd May


Tuesday 30th April was another lovely day for bowls, with Pennants, Club Pairs and Social Bowls being played.
As President Barbara and Secretary Judy were at Kempsey Heights to watch Jennifer Munson and Pat Light compete in the Regional Play-off at Kempsey Heights, Vice President Ann Kirk did the announcements.
