Port City WBC Weekly News




It was great to see so many bowlers on the greens on Tuesday 28th January.
Last week the State Triples were held and we are proud to announce that a Port City Team comprising Lynne Thompson, Margaret Doyle and Faye Schollum won the Final. Owing to inclement weather the Final was played on Friday 24th January, at North Haven, instead of Thursday 23rd as scheduled.Lucky Rink Winners today – 1st Frances Fairbrother, Rita Koenig, Jenny Wallis, 2nd – Jo Jenkins, Margaret Fowler, Daphne Sumsky, Wendy Elliott. Consolation – Rose Edwards, Joy Barry, Barbara Owens.

During the morning it was great to see the NSW Team arrive to practise for the “State of Origin” Ashes Test Series between NSW and QLD.
The matches are to be played on Wednesday 29th from 5.30 am and all day Thursday.
There will be no Ladies Social Bowls for the rest of the week, due to the playing of the Test Series and the Men’s Pennant Trials on Saturday.
There will be Ladies Coaching on Friday morning at 10.00 am.
The State Singles will commence on Tuesday 4th February and the Final will be played on Thursday 6th February at North Haven.
The State Pairs will commence on Tuesday 11th February and the final will be played on Thursday 13th February at Westport.
The first Gala Day for the year will be held on Tuesday 18th February at Lake Cathie.
Pennants for 2014 will commence on 24th February.
Our first Quarterly Meeting for the year will be held on Tuesday 25th February, after bowls.
Entry Forms are now available for our Easter Carnival, which will be held from Friday 18th April to Monday 21st April, so it’s not too soon to put your teams together.
To any of our ladies who are unwell, or who are unable to play we look forward to your return to bowls soon.
Names in or out, or ladies wishing to only play 9 ends, please ring the club on 6583 1153 before 8.00 am on Tuesdays.
