Port City WBC Weekly News



 

Vice President Margaret Edwards stood in for Barbara today as she was away playing District Fours. There were only a few rinks of Social Bowls played today as there were 8 rinks of District Fours being played. The final will be held on 16th January at North Haven.
Next Tuesday, 21st January will see the start of the District Triples and the final will be played on 23rd at Wauchope
We were pleased to welcome Beryl Young, Gwen Turner, Irene Turner, Val Grambau, Shirley Chapman and Marianne Smith to our monthly non-bowling ladies morning tea.

Bowls Coaching will be held at 10.00 am this Friday
There will be Ladies Social Bowls on Saturday, but only until 11.30 am., because the men will be playing Pennant Trials.

There will be the usual Sunday afternoon Mixed Triples.
We will be holding our Australia Day Mixed Triples on Sunday 26th January. Damper and Billy Tea will be served at 9.30 am. This will be followed at 10.00 am by a Mixed – Ladies or Men’s Triples game. Dress Code – Australian and prizes will be awarded for “Best Dressed”. Cost is $45/team. This will include lunch. Entry Forms now available and there will be prizes to the value of $700.

On Wednesday, 29th January and Thursday 30th January our club will be hosting a “State of Origin” Ashes Test Series between NSW and QLD. We hope that many would take the opportunity of seeing some of the best bowlers in Australia competing in this event. Aron Sherriff, Karen Murphy, Wayne Turley, Nathan Rice, Lynsey Clarke and our own Morgan Solman-Stewart will be playing, to name a few. On Wednesday 29th Roll-Ups start at 5.15 pm and the game will commence at 5.30 pm. On Thursday there will be two games played over the day.
The first Gala Day for the year will be held on Tuesday 18th February at Lake Cathie.

Pennants for 2014 will commence on 24th February.
Our first Quarterly Meeting for the year will be held on Tuesday  25th February, after bowls.
Entry Forms are now available for our Easter Carnival, which will be held from Friday 18th April to Monday 21st April, so it’s not too soon to put your teams together.

Names in or out, or ladies wishing to only play 9 ends, please ring the club on 6583 1153 before 8.00 am on Tuesdays.
