Port City WBC Weekly News 29th March


It was a very busy day at the Club on Tuesday 27th March when President Shirley welcomed Pennant teams from Lake Cathie Kew North Haven and Westport.
It was also great to see Bonnie Weatherley Zelle Cook and Rita Koenig have a game of bowls after a prolonged absence. Our visitor Adele Pobje was having a social game as well.

New Bowls Format at North Haven

On Sunday 1st April 10am North Haven Bowling Club will be demonstrating a new format of Lawn Bowls which is set to change the way the general public look at bowls. This new format has been designed to bring the fun and excitement of Tenpin Bowls and the finesse of Lawn Bowls together in a fast paced, family orientated game.

What a difference a week makes! The weather was great today with a gusty wind to give the bowlers a challenge.

Port City Men's Veteran's Day

 
The Port City Men's BC Veteran's Day will be held on Thursday 12th April. This is a "members only" day for all veterans (70 years young and older!)

Men's LNC District Conditions of Play

The Men's LNC District Conditions of play for 2012 are available for Officials and all interested players. These cover all Association Events (Major Championships, District Events etc.) as well as Pennants.

Port City Women's Bowling Club News Report for the week ending 20th March.

The rain gods were dancing again on Tuesday 20th March with the commencement of the Major Singles Championship and all participants receiving a drenching during the morning. Social bowls was cancelled for the day and no pennant matches were listed at our Club either.

Lake Cathie Big Bowl Singles

Sectional winners in the "Big Bowl Singles" from play today and Monday are as follows:

Wayne Turley (Taren Point)
Ray Pearce (Alexandria Erskineville)
Mark Prior (Westport)
David Holt (Cabramatta)

These four will play in the semi final tomorrow (Wednesday) morning with the winners progressing to the final.
Up-date Wed. 21st March: Ray Pearce takes out the title with a 31 - 30 win over David Holt.

LNC District Men's Pennant Results



Men's Pennant Play at Port City

Visitors from the Wauchope Bowls Club.

Round 3 of the LNC District Men's Pennant was played today. All games were started under reasonable weather conditions but the rain closed in late in the afternoon and play was stopped. Fortunately the minimum of 54 ends were played and all games were considered as completed.

Available results for Port City teams were as follows:

Grade 2: Port City lost to Lake Cathie 0 - 6
Grade 4: Port City defeated Wauchope 5 - 1

Grade 6/2: Port City defeated Lake Cathie 6 - 0
Grade 7/2: Port City defeated Port Panthers 5 - 1

The 31st staging of the Lake Cathie Bowling Club's Big Bowl Prestige Singles is not far away. Next Monday the 19th March the club will host its biggest event and organisers have assembled another quality field of 24 players from around the state.

Port City WBC Weekly News 15th March



It was a crisp Autumn morning on Tuesday 13th March when President Shirley welcomed the Grade 2 Pennant team from North Haven. Pennant results for that day - Grade 2 Port City (1) drew with Port City (2) and North Haven defeated Port City (3) on the final match of the Grade 2 pennant making it an overall win to the Port City Grade 2 (1) taking out the flag for this year. Congratulations were given by President of North Haven Deidre and also President Shirley for this result with best wishes to the team for the next step to compete in the Regional Play-offs at Port City on May 15th/16th. Congratulations were given to Debbie Amor (skip) Carol Bowman Barbara Gunn and Fay Schollum - Jennifer Munson (skip) Judy Scholz Norma Schwartz and Eveline Ramsay.

Lake Cathie "Big Bowl" Singles

The 31st "Big Bowl" Prestige Singles is being held at the Lake Cathie BC next week from Monday 19th March to Wednesday 21st March. As well as top viewing with the singles games a Henselite "Master Class" is being held on Tuesday 20th March at 2 pm.

As you can see from the draw there will be a host of internationals, combined with some of our finest up and coming state reps up against the pick of our local talent. This prestigious annual singles event always provides excellent viewing at the friendly Lake Cathie Bowling Club.

The final of the Port City Men's major singles was played today under ideal conditions for both players and the numerous spectators.

Two of the club's top players Frank Smith and Allan White gave a great display of competitive bowling with the score 28 all after 32 ends of play. Frank went on to take the title 31 - 28. This was his first major singles win and may not be his last if he keeps up this level of play.

Port City WBC March Newsletter



Mother Nature has been reasonably kind to us with the Pennant season well under way.   We have had mixed results so far but the cheer squad is needed for some teams.   Thank you to the umpires for their diligence and also the social committee for their delicious sandwiches.

Port City Men's Major Singles

The semi finals of the Port City men's major singes were played this morning with some excellent bowls in both games. Frank Smith defeated Chris Campbell 31 - 24 and Allan White took out Eric Rowsell 31 - 30 in a game that could have gone either way.

The final between Frank and Allan will be played next Sunday 11th March commencing at 9:00 am.

New Poll Regarding Fours Games


Bowls Australia has a poll running regarding your preferred position in a fours game. Their poll is replicated on the right and ready for your selection.

It is interesting to note that their poll shows equal preference for lead, third & skip with much lower preference for second. It should be interesting to see your preference!
