Port City WBC Monthly Newsletter October 2016

PRESIDENT   DEB’S   BITS and PIECES
Hi Ladies,

It's been a fairly quiet month, although we did play the Versatility 5s and the Handicap Triples.  Both events went extremely well.  However, we would love to see more players participate next year.

Don't forget our girls are playing in the State playoffs 23rd-31st at Tuncurry, please support them if you can

SAYING OF THE MONTH ………

Be nice to people on your way up.  Because you will need them on the way down.

President Deb

SELECTORS' REPORT - Chairperson, Shirley Devine

A reminder to present to pay green fees at least 15 minutes before play.

Thank you to the 48 players who put their names on the pennant list.  We are currently deliberating on how to put together the sides which will give us the best chance to win pennant flags for our Club.  A sheet detailing the criteria for pennant selection is on the notice board.

UMPIRES CORNER - Fay Martin

Do not stop the opposition's bowls from going into the ditch otherwise they can ask for it back to be played again.

It is a good idea to play by the rules in social bowls so you will not get into bad habits when playing Championships or Carnivals.

If you have the last bowl and your team's bowl looks as if it will fall and touch the jack you can ask for a 30 second delay before you declare the head.  All bowls must not be secured during that period.

2016 State Championships

The 2016 State Championships will be hosted by Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club on October 23-31.  Our Club will be well represented.

The Senior Fours and Open Fours will be played on October 24 & 25.  The Senior Fours team is Margaret Doyle (S), Lyn Zahra, Di Allen and Shirley Devine.  The Open Fours team is Lynne Thompson(S), Carol White, Lois Bishell and Faye Schollum.

The Senior Pairs and Open Pairs will be played on October 28 & 29.  The Senior Pairs team is Jennifer Munson (S) and Rhonda Evans. The Open Pairs team is Lynne Thompson (S) and Carol White.

These teams have won their categories at District, then Regional levels and are to be congratulated for reaching the State finals.  Good luck!!!!

PRACTICE/ COACHING
Friday Morning 10am  with Margaret Doyle

WHY PRACTICE?

The Minor singles are coming up.
At least 90 percent of bowls you play will be a draw shot.  This is a bowl played with the intention of finishing at a certain position on the green, usually close to the jack, but not always the jack.

I am always here Fridays at 10.00 for help and support.  I'd love to see you.   Margaret

Happy birthday to everyone celebrating a birthday during October.

WELFARE - Mary Bennett

To all our members not in the best of health at the moment we wish you a speedy recovery and back to good health very soon.

Hope to see you all back on the greens soon.

Cheers, Gail Carmody, Publicity Officer
