The Women's Bowls NSW State Championships are being held from Sunday 23rd to Monday 31st October at the Tuncurry Beach BC.

Bowls NSW has advised that "Orders for Umpires Shirts are now being taken. Orders are to be received by 25 October 2016, with delivery expected in early March 2017"

I believe the date should read "25 November" rather than October.

Zone 14 Membership by Club

The men's Zone 14 registered membership by club has now been updated to include data for October 2016. With thanks to Paul Russell, Zone 14, figures now show Oct 2015 and Oct 2016 to provide a direct comparison at the same time of the year.

While the overall resulting decline in membership is of concern it is encouraging to see several clubs holding, or increasing, their numbers during the year.

2016 Transplant Games

Wayne Garvan of North Haven recently took part in the 2016 Transplant Games held in Sydney. Wayne was one of 600 athletes who took part and it is sobering to realise that each of the athletes participating would not have been there except for the gift of an organ. Six hundred people donated an organ so that these athletes could lead a normal life. Six hundred sounds a lot but that number could be even greater if people took a moment to register as a donor and spoke to their relatives to ensure their wishes are respected.

Hi Ladies,

It's been a fairly quiet month, although we did play the Versatility 5s and the Handicap Triples.  Both events went extremely well.  However, we would love to see more players participate next year.

The Lake Cathie Men's BC "The President's Big Bowl Pairs" tournament commenced today under warm and overcast conditions.

With $4,000 prize money play consists of 2 games today, Saturday, and 2 tomorrow. Winners are determined by wins, ends and then margins if required.

The 2016 Westport Men's Gold Medal Pairs commenced today (Sat. 1st Oct) under kind spring weather conditions and fast running greens.
