Zone 14 Finals at South West Rocks

The Zone 14 championships in the Senior Singles, Senior Pairs, Presidents Reserve Singles and the Presidents Reserve Pairs were played at South West Rocks this weekend.

Full details have been reported thanks to Kevin Williams as follows:

Senior Singles
Barrie Isaac (Kew) 31 def John Hall(Sawtell) 19.
In the early stages, this was a very close contest with no less than 7 lead changes up to the 17th end at which point Barrie led 15-14. Wins on 6 successive ends stretched the advantage to  27-14 from which john was unable to recover. Honours were even over the concluding ends, with Barrie scoring a comfortable 31-19 victory.

Senior Pairs:
Bryce Stewart & (sub) Chris Thornton (Port City) 22 def John Bradley & Des Doyle (Urunga) 14.
Another closely contested final, with 9 of the first 14 ends being won with single shots and the score line delicately poised at 12-10 in favour of the Port City pair. 5 shots on the 15th end proved to be decisive giving Bryce and Chris a handy 7 shot margin. John & Des were able to bring  the gap back to 4 shots, but wins on the two concluding ends put the result beyond doubt.

Presidents Reserve Singles
Dale Scrivener (Scotts Head) 31 def Paul Webster (Port City) 26.
Despite the fact that Paul led for only 1 of the 36 ends, this match could not be described as a one-sided contest. Dale skipped to an early 9 shot advantage but Paul remained composed and gradually fought back for a 20-20 score line after 24 ends. Dale edged ahead but each time he did so, Paul responded. Ultimately, singles on the final 3 ends gave Dale a narrow victory.

Presidents Reserve Pairs
Hagop Aladjadjian & Dale Scrivener (Scotts Head) 20 def Terry Batterson & Daniel Abela (Kempsey RSL) 19.
This match had much in common with both the PR Singles and Senior Pairs finals. Despite Terry & Daniel leading for only 2 of the 21 ends, this match could also not be described as a one-sided contest with only a 2 shot margin after 16 ends.  But like the Senior Pairs,  5 shots on the 17th end gave “H” and Dale a decisive 7 shot advantage.  Terry & Daniel gave it everything over the concluding ends, failing by just a single shot to draw level on the 21st end.

LNC Bowls coordinator, Kevin Williams, on behalf of Zone 14 Bowling Association thanked South West Rocks President , Pat Corby, officiating umpire, Roy Cousins, and Greenkeeper Mark for hosting the finals and providing greens in excellent condition.
Congratulations to all the winners and good fortune at the State Championship Finals to be held at Ettalong Memorial BC (Zone 15) from October 24th – 31st.
