Port City WBC Weekly News 27th February

President Barbara was away on Tuesday 25th February and Vice-President Margaret Edwards stood in for her.

There was Social Bowls played today, as well as a Pennant Game between Grade 4, Port City (1) and Wauchope (2) Port City won 5 – 0.

Pennant Practice at Port City

Men's Pennant practice was in full swing today at Port City as the Pennant season draws near for both the Women's and Men's Pennant.

The Women's pennant starts next week on the 24th and the Men's next Saturday 1st March.

Port City WBC Weekly News 20th February

Vice-President Carol Bowman welcomed 42 players, with a special welcome to visitor Dawn Perkins from Canada, who will be returning home next week.

Happy Birthday to Barbara Riordan, who celebrated a birthday on 17^th February, Judy Brady, who celebrated a birthday on 19^th February and Jan Gauld, who celebrated a birthday on 20^th February.

Mixed Pairs Champions Crowned

Jenny Roberts (Lake Cathie) and Greg Brims (Port City)  have secured the 2014 mixed pairs title at the Australian Open.

This year’s mixed pairs champions have been crowned at the $140,000 Australian Open after triumphing in last night’s blockbuster final.

Jenny & Greg in Final at the Australian Open

Jenny Roberts (Lake Cathie) & Greg Brims (Port City) are in the final of the Australian Open in Melbourne. With 3 impressive wins - 15/14, 20/3 & 13/11 the pair will meet C. Millerick & S. DeJongh in the mixed pairs final.

Dooker-Eggert Shield District Competition

The annual Dooker-Eggert inter district competition between the Men's Lower North Coast and the Manning Districts will be held at Port Panthers on Sunday 23 March.

The much needed rain eventuated this week putting a damper on bowls but as stalwarts, we continued on a little damp at times.

Play continued today, Sunday, in the Men's Major Pairs after play Saturday in the Major Singles.

Australian Open Bowls Starts Today

The 2014 Australian Open starts today in Melbourne with an impressive list of top bowlers who have qualified in the preliminary rounds.

Port City WBC Weekly News 13th February

Social Bowls was played on Tuesday 11^th February, as well as District Pairs. The Final of the District Pairs will be played on Thursday 13^th February at Westport.

Congratulations to Margaret Doyle for reaching the Finals of the District Singles held on Thursday 6th February and being Runner-up to Jenny Roberts from Lake Cathie.

Wednesday & Thursday saw a great competition, “ The Test Series , The State of Origin” between Queensland and N.S.W. with N.S.W. being victorious in all disciplines, The Mens, The Ladies and The Under 25’s. Well done N.S.W. and congratulations to Queensland for their sterling effort.
