Championship Play at Port City


Major / Minor Men's pairs and Mixed Pairs championships were played today at Port City with fast greens and some gusty wind.

Port City WBC Weekly News

On Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August the Inaugural State versus City match was played at our club. Country defeated City by 20 shots overall.
The Coca Cola Triples was held at our club on 26th and 27th August. The clubs that participated were Port City, Lake Cathie, Park Beach, Tuncurry, Tuncurry Sports, Old Bar, Westport, Panthers, Kew, and a visitor from South Australia.

Coca Cola Women's Triples at Port City

The Coca Cola Women's Triples commenced today at Port City under ideal conditions and free running greens. 

We had 22 teams competing from as far north as Park Beach and south to Tuncurry.
There were some very close games but the overall winners were from Port City

Winners on day 1 were Debbie Amor, Carol Bowman and Faye Schollum with Beth Hicks, Kerry Bolsover and Robin Kean the runners up.

Port City Men's BC Weekly News Report


 Port City Men's Bowling Club news letter for the week ending Sunday 25th August.

Wednesday pm :-$15:- B Stokes, J Burge & M Wallis.  $10:- J Jackson, E Leonard & K Ison. $7:- P Gilligan & W Pallot.

LNC District C of C Champions Pairs Final


Alan Wares and Peter Taylor (Kempsey Heights) defeated Jim Cranna and Geoff Ball ( Port City) 22 / 21 after playing an extra end.

Scores were locked at 18 all after 18 ends. The Kempsey boys then picked up a single and a two on the next two ends. Cranna and Ball then responded with a three on the twenty first to take the game into an extra end. 

With Cranna and Ball holding two shots Peter Taylor drove the jack into the ditch with his second last bowl. This proved to be the winning shot in a very exciting game.

Westport Pair win LNC State Rookies Title


Cameron Styles & Johann Hrabak from Westport have won the final round of the LNC District Rookies Pairs. They will now progress to the Zone 14 finals.

Country Triumphs in State Test



The Country side had a convincing win, 101 - 85, this morning at Port City in the 3rd game to take out the test 2 games to 1. The total scoreline of 310 to 290 indicated how evenly matched the sides were over the test.

Rounds 1 & 2 of Women's City vs. Country Completed


The photo says it all - clear skies and a great atmosphere at Port City with music over the greens for the first day of the City vs. Country competition.

District C of C Champions Pairs at Westport


Rounds 1 & 2 of the LNC District Champion of Club Champions Pairs were played today under ideal conditions at Westport. With the fast greens it brought out the best in all the teams.

Bowls NSW Introduces Smoke-Free Greens


The following is a news release from Bowls NSW 

"The Bowls NSW Board has today taken the positive step of ensuring all future State Finals of Association Events as well as Inter-Zone Sides Championships are played on “Smoke-Free Greens” with smoking to be banned on the greens during play for all players and officials."

Port City WBC Weekly News


President Barbara welcomed all bowlers on Tuesday 20th August and gave a special welcome to a new member, Jo Jenkins.
The final of the Major Minor Pairs was played today. Congratulations to the Winners – Pat Morrison and Carol Bowman and the Runners-up, Denise Gudgeon and Gail Carmody. It was a very tight game, with only a 2 shots difference overall.

Women's Metro vs. Country at Port City This Week


The NSW Women's Metro vs. Country Competition will be held this weekend at Port City on Saturday 24th  - Sunday morning 25th August.

Port City's Barbara Barrett in included in the country side. This state event should be well worth watching - come out and cheer the country side to victory.

The final of the Men's  LNC District, Champion of Club Champions Singles, was played at  Port City today with Shane Globits (North Haven) taking out the match 31 - 27 defeating Peter Taylor (Kempsey Heights).

Eddie Takes Out Minor Singles Championship

The final of the Port City Men's Minor Singles was played this morning with Eddie Dasczyk taking out the title 31 - 25 over Steve Matheson.

Well done to both players for a well played game and reaching the finals.

The semi finals of the LNC District Champion of Club Champions Singles were completed this morning at Port City. Results as follows:

Shane Globits (North Haven) def. Wayne Buckley (Westport) 31 - 26
Peter Taylor (Kempsey Heights) def. Tiger Kelly (Port Panthers) 31 - 19

The final between Globits and Taylor is starting anytime now - 12.30 pm.

The LNC District Rookies Singles commenced today at Westport.

2 Sections were equal on Points and margin - Andrew Lynn (Bowls NSW) gave the ruling that the player who conceded the least shots would be the winner.

Women's State Pennant Finals Update

Vice-President Margaret Edwards stood in for President Barbara, who was away playing with the Grade 2 Pennant Team. From 12th – 15th August our Grade 1 and Grade 2 Pennant Players are at Port Stephens competing for the State Pennant Play-off.

Our new Bowls NSW umpire shirts have arrived to help identify the umpire on duty. Not to be outdone by the women's new umpire shirts these replace the canary yellow shirts and general comments are that this is a major improvement !

District Men's C of C Champions - Singles

The 2013 LNC District Champion of Club Champions Singles will be played this weekend at Port City starting on Saturday morning 17th August.

Zone 14 Takes Out the 7-A-Side Junior State Championship


The 2013 NSW Junior Inter-Zone 7-A-Side Championship was decided today at Port City under ideal weather and excellent green conditions. 

Zone 14 retained the State Championship with a 2 game to 1 win over Zone 10 in the final.

Upcoming Events in August



A great month for bowls with the following major events in August.

NSW Junior Inter-Zone 7-A-Side Tournament:  Sat. 10 - Sun. 11 August at Port City.  Come out and watch some exciting bowls with the juniors. Games are scheduled for Sat. am & pm and Sunday am. Details of the draw are expected to be available tomorrow, Friday.

Men's State Pennant Finals


Click here for results by grade for the sectional play on the Bowls NSW web site. Stuarts Point were the only Zone 14 side to progress to the semi finals to be played this afternoon. The finals will be played tomorrow, Monday morning.

Update: 5:00 pm - unfortunately Stuarts Point went down 66 - 59 to Grafton.

The NSW Men's State Pennant finals start today at various locations around the state.

Port City WBC Weekly News 1st Aug 2013




Tuesday 30th July we held our Handicap Triples Tournament, as well as a small field of Social Bowls. Social Bowls were won by Trish Wellings, Zelle Gaymans, Daphne Sumsky and Judy Brooks.
