Women's State Carnival - Day 4


A bit of a mixture today with the weather, Fine in the morning but then light periodic showers in the afternoon.

Play progressed with sectional winners into the knock-out rounds. At the time of posting results for the first 2 rounds are on the Women's Assoc. website. Results for round 3 should be posted later. Click here for the results sheet.

Winners from today will progress to the semi finals and final tomorrow (Friday)

Port City Men's Pennant Dinner Night

 
The Port City Men's BC's prawn and chicken dinner for all Pennant participants will be held in the Club on Thursday 7th June commencing at 6:00  pm.

All pennant players, reserves, side managers (including all women managers) and pennant umpires are invited to this night. Provided by the Men's Club there is no charge for the dinner.

Always a great night enjoyed by the Port City "pennant team" - we encourage you to come.

What a difference a day makes! We finally turned on some of the usual Port Macquarie good weather for our visitors. It was even fine enough for the "fair weather" photographer to get out and take some shots today from Westport and Port Panthers. Click here to view.

Thursday's play at Port City BC will see the sectional winners in knock-out play progressing to the finals on Friday.

Women's Carnival Underway In Port Macquarie

 
The New South Wales Women's Bowling Association (NSWWBA) annual Carnival got underway in the Port Macquarie area today under some "trying" weather conditions.

Daily results will be posted on the Women's Association web site - click here for the "results" sheet. I would assume the daily winners will be posted for Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. Update Tues 29 May - results have now been posted for Monday.

Port City Men's Major Triples Final

The final of the Port City Men's Major Triples was played this morning with the team of Jamie Sallustio (skip), Chris Campbell & David Moxon taking out the title wiith a 23 - 21 over Geoff Worley (skip), Jai Whelan & Keith Ashdown. 

Zone 14 Men's Pennant Results

The Zone 14 Pennant finals were completed this morning with Park Beach taking out the prestigious Grade 1 title.

1200 female bowlers and officials will descend on Port Macquarie for five days from Monday 28th May to Friday 1st June for the NSW Women’s Bowling Association Inc.’s 83rd State Carnival.

Autumn has certainly brought us some beautiful weather and it was no exception on Tuesday when the Major Fours Competition began. Results are - (skips only) F. Martin d J. Stockham J. Port City Women's Major Pairs 2012

 
Lois Bishell (right) and Beth Schubert won the Port City Women's Major Pairs Championship Saturday defeating many competent teams to reach the Final and played brilliant bowls to win this prestigious event.  

LNC Post Sectional Playoffs

The post sectional playoff for the LNC District men's pennant grades 6 & 7 was completed today at the Lake Cathie BC.

Crescent Head defeated North Haven 73-51 to win grade 6, while North Haven 7.1 defeated North Haven 7.2 by 62-59.

Port City WBC Weekly News17th May



Due to the Regional Pennant Play-offs on Tuesday and Wednesday, there was no social bowls. This Saturday the Final of the Major Pairs Championship will be held at 9 am. Next Tuesday 22nd May the Major Fours championship commences and the Quarterly Meeting will be held after these games at approx 1 pm. Please try and attend as we need to have a Quorum. It would be a good opportunity also to pay your yearly fees which are due by 3lst May.

The next event on our calendar is the State Carnival which will be held in this District from 28th May - 1st June. We are looking forward to some great bowling from the many visitors who will be in Port Macquarie and District during this time.

The Versatility Fives will be held on Monday 30th/Tuesday 31st July and entries are being received by Carol Bowman Carnival Secretary - $30 per player - entries close 20th July.

To any of our members or their families who are not in the best of health we send our love and best wishes for a good recovery.

The Women's Regional Pennant finals were completed at Port City this week with the following winners by grade:

Well done to the ladies from Port City and all the best for all the winners who now progress to the State Finals to be played at Tuncurry commencing Monday 13th August.

LNC & Zone 14 Men's Pennant Finals

The LNC Men's Pennant finals start this weekend with the post-sectional play for grades 6 & 7 on Sunday the 20th May at Lake Cathie with a 9:30 am start.

Grade 6 will see Crescent Head vs. North Haven and Grade 7 has North Haven's 7/1 vs. their 7/2's 
The winner from these games will progress to the Zone 14 finals as follows:

The Zone 14 Pennant finals will be held on Sunday the 27th May, at North Haven (Grades 1 - 4) and Woolgoolga (Grades 5 - 7). starting at 9:30 am.

Greenkeepers Championships at Port City


The following is a news release from Charlie Buchanan, Bowls Coordinator, Port City regarding the upcoming NSW Greenkeepers State Championships to be played at Port City BC from Monday 21st - Friday 25th May. The championships include both singles and pairs.

Zone 14 Under 18 State Championships

The Zone 14 Under 18 State Championship finals will be held on Saturday 19th - Sunday 20th May at the North Haven Bowling. LNC  and MNC District Champions as follows play to decide the Zone Champions who will then progress in the State Finals.

The matches include singles, pairs and fours. Click here for the draw and details of all teams.

As Ian Weldon noted on his news release "Everyone is invited to come and don't be surprised at the quality of the bowls you will see".

President Shirley welcomed the District Match Committee to the club for the playing of the District Triples Championship. It was a glorious day and the weather brought out some players who haven't attended for some time - Megan Hobson, Margaret Willis and Betty Hazell.

Port City WBC May Newsletter



What an exciting month for our Club with wonderful results from our girls.

CONGRATULATIONS are due to Carol White and Jennifer Munson who contested the Final of the Major Singles Club Championship recently with Carol being the eventual winner. Carol then went on to compete in the Regional Singles Play-off at Taree in extreme weather conditions where she was again the winner and will go to Tuncurry in October to play in the State Singles.

Port City Classic Open Singles Wrap Up

The final of the Port City Classic Open Singles was played under kind weather with Matt Gallop taking out the title 21 - 9 with Wayne Buckley runner up. The premier singles tournament at Port City was again an outstanding event according to both players and spectators.

Matt Gallop (Cabramatta) took out the Port City Classic Open Singles title this afternoon with a 21 - 9 over Wayne Buckley (Hat Head). Both players gave the spectators an excellent exhibition of draw bowling.

Matt may not be well known as yet but at 24 years old he has a great future in bowls. A Kiwi, he has an impressive record in New Zealand and has been chosen to represent New Zealand in the 2012 World Bowls Championships.

Once again the weather held for us today in Port Macquarie and the second day of qualifying rounds were completed with many of the top name bowlers progressing.

Sectional winners include Neil Burkett (Merrylands) 3 wins +28, Bill Ahoy (Valentine)3 wins +27, Ian Taylor (Kingscliff) 2 wins +16, Jeremy Henry (Warilla) 3 wins +38, "evergreen" Sam Laguzza (Swansea) 3 wins +33, Shannon Gittoes ( Musgrave Hill) 3 wins +22 & Ray Glasser (Musgrave Hill) 2 wins +10. Previous winner David Holt (Cabramatta) unfortunately did not take out his section.
