Port City Men's BC Weekly News


Port City Men's Bowling Club news letter for the week ending the 29th January.
Club Championship Fours Semi/Final :- R.Bradbury ,E.Dasczyk ,J.Judge and C.Buchanan def P.Gilligan ,K.Lipscombe ,T.Newell and B.Chapman. The men's fours final will be played on Friday 3rd February at 9-00 a.m. with C.Buchanan`s team against G.McFarlane,R.Towers,G.Laird & P.Sheridan`s Team. “Good bowling to both teams”.

Stockham & Baldwin Take Out State Pairs Title

The LNC District State Pairs final was played at Port Panthers this morning and saw Col Baldwin & Peter Stockham (skip) defeat Keith Martin & Greg Brims (skip) 20 - 11 in a great game to take out the title.

A Great Program for 2012

The Port City Bowling Club have gained the rights to host a number of prestigious bowls events in 2012. 

Just announced by the RNSWBA is the  -  7 "A" Side Junior State Championships for 2012. This brings bowlers from all over the state to compete in this most sought after junior event that is to be held from Friday 10th August through to Sunday 12th August 2012.

Welcome to 2012. I hope everyone had a great time over the Christmas holiday period, and is looking forward to having a fantastic bowling year. With the Pennant Season about to start, lets get behind the selectors and see if we can win a state flag this year. ( I know that the Pennant Season is called the “Silly Season”, so if you don’t get picked in the grade or team that you think you should have, SO WHAT, the sun will still rise tomorrow)!

LNC District Pairs Competition

The State Pairs at Port Panthers were called off today as advised earlier by Terry Merchant. 

"Bowls have been called off today...games will be played next Saturday with the final now to be played on Sunday morning"

I would assume the same situation applied at Port City and Lake Cathie - will confirm later.

President Shirley gave a warm welcome to the players who had entered the District Pairs on Tuesday with the hope that the day would remain dry. Social players unfortunately did not have a full game because of the torrential downpour that occurred during the morning and therefore were forced to leave the green early.

My reports of the District President's Reserve Singles indicated that the winner, Anthony Westman, was representing Westport. After reading the bowls reports in today's Port News I realised I had listed. in error, Anthony as playing out of Westport rather than his nominated club Kew. My apologies to Anthony and all my good friends at Kew.

LNC District Singles Finals

Anthony Westman (Westport) - President's Reserve Singles Champion

Play was completed today in all sections of the LNC District Singles with results as follows:

State Singles: Scott Franklin (Kempsey Heights)  def. Chris Brown (South West Rocks) 31 - 21 in the final at Hat Head.

State Senior Singles: Ken Paulsen (Westport) def. Bruce Anderson (Westport) 31 - 14 in the final at Wauchope.

President's Reserve Singles: Garry Lawer (Port City) def. Phil West (Westport) 31 - 29 and Anthony Westman (Westport) def. Jim Burge (Port City) 31 - 17 in the semi finals at Westport.

Port City WBC News 13th January


With warm and humid conditions and little breeze , President Shirley welcomed
players who had entered the District Singles Championship as well as 32 social
ladies last Tuesday. It was great to see Hilary O'Neile back after a long absence.

DUE TO A MISUNDERSTANDING IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT THERE WILL BE SOCIAL

Port City WBC January Newsletter


The break-up party was a tremendous success, thank you to everyone concerned. What can we say about the concert - fantastic! Many thanks for a terrific day. Well done to everyone who donated goods to the Salvation Army and who contributed to the $950 cheque which we were able to present to Major Brett.
We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and are fit and ready to get back into bowling.

 LNC District Singles finals will be played this weekend as follows:

State Singles: Final to be played Saturday morning at Hat Head: 
 C. Brown (South West Rocks) vs. S. Franklin (Kempsey Heights).

State Senior Singles: Final to be played Saturday morning at Wauchope:
Bruce Anderson (Westport) vs. Ken Paulsen (Westport)

State President' Reserve Singles: Semi final and final to be played at Westport on Saturday:
Garry Lawer (Port City) vs. P. West (Westport) & Jim Burge (Port City) vs. Anthony Westman (Westport)

Good bowling to all players and it would be great to see a good crowd of spectators enjoying some competitive action in the finals.

LNCDBA Pres. Reserve Singles - Day 2

Rounds 3 & 4 of the LNC District President's Reserve Singles were played at Westport today under sunny skies and a gusty wind.

The large field of entries is now down to the semi finals round and will see: Garry Lawer (Port City) vs. P. West (Westport) and Jim Burge (Port City) vs. Anthony. Westman (Westport). The semi finals followed by the final will be played next Saturday at Westport.

Port City WBC 5th January 2012


Happy New Year to everyone and good bowling in 2012.
Summer has finally arrived and mother nature treated the 46
players present on Tuesday to a beautiful day for bowls.

Lucky rinks were -
1st Jenny Wallis - Margaret Doyle - Kerry Bolsover
who had the opportunity of picking up the Lucky number for the
Jackpot. Unfortunately they were not successful and it now stands
at $360 on the next draw.
2nd Trish Wellings - Beth Hicks - Jan Drewson
Consolation - Sue Smith - Barbara Owen - Heather Segboer
It was announced that Thursday Ladies Pairs resumes this week.
Also Ladies Triples will recommence on Saturday at 9.30 am.
After a short break Sunday Mixed Tripes will be available from
this Sunday 8th January.
District Singles begin on Tuesday 10th January and District Pairs
begin Tuesday 17th January. ALL DISTRICT GAMES will begin with
roll - ups at 8.50am. Check the board for venues.
As there will be limited space available for the District Pairs on Tuesday
17th January NO SOCIAL BOWLS will be available in the morning but roll-ups
are allowed after the morning pairs games have been completed.
Birthday girls this week - Betty Hodgson - Mary Bennett - Sue Smith
and Ann Kirk.
Raffle prizes were won by 1st Betty Hall, 2nd Marie Bignell.
Congratulations to Elaine and George Moss who have recently
celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss.
Two of our special girls called in to the Club for coffee and it was great
to see them - Shirley Chapman and Jan Goldman. Hope to see you both
next week.
Just a reminder that the non playing members morning tea will be held
next week at 10.30 am. Looking forward to seeing all of you then.
Many of our members have not been enjoying the best of health over this
festive season and we do hope that 2012 will bring good health to all of you.
